Impossible.
Ness was lying on the bench. One foot up, his head rested on the cold blue metal of the bench.
He stared at the light grey of the canopy above the bench.
He had a sprained ankle and couldn’t play football for the next few weeks.
The doctor assured and reassured him that he’ll be fine.
But it was a disaster for Ness.
He felt like his world was spinning and stopping at the same time.
An endless stream of thoughts flooded his mind. All of them revolved around Kaiser one way or the other.
Ness held his breath.
What was he doing?
He couldn’t let his mind be occupied with Kaiser like that.
It was just a sprained ankle not a broken leg.
The noise on the football field got too loud.
Ness turned his head –his brain crashed against his skull– to observe his teammates.
But he only saw him.
Way out, immersed in the football match, he could make out a focused Kaiser.
The other players were equally focused.
Without him.
Kaiser was without his magic.
And the worst part about it?
He was fine.
Absolutely fine.
Ness wanted to hide.
But he couldn’t avert his gaze.
For a brief moment he locked eyes with Kaiser.
Did he say something?
