#kaijiation

My birthday is coming up, so with a little help from a friend, I decided to make a contest to celebrate! It’s going to involve the Age of Kaiju setting, with the rules that entails!

The contest itself is simple, Create a Kaimera. A Kaimera is what happens when you mix the cells from a kaiju into a different creature, making a new kaiju that mixes traits from both. Kaimera cannot be made with more than two different animals, with very few exceptions.

A three mix Kaimera has a very small chance for survival, if the three are unrelated. A three mix Kaimera has a higher chance of survival if the kaiju somehow grows from infancy, but as infant kaiju are practically non existent in modern times, this is difficult. This holds true for mixes of more than three, but the odds of survival are nearly non existent.

Mixes of three or more are more likely to succeed if the animals used are closely related to one another. For example, mixing an owl with a tarantula and a squid would most certainly die. Mixing an owl with several other birds is much more likely to survive, especially if they are also species of owl.

Additionally to these, Kaimera cells will result in a fatality if they are used to try and make a new Kaimera. The reason for the death in the first place is the trauma of such dramatic mutations, and some simple Kaimera also die from how drastically different the two creatures are, but Kaimera cells are already a mixture, so their cells are always lethal when it comes time for the mutation to kick in.

A Kaimera can be a mix of traits from either the original creature, or the kaiju donor. Typically, the Kaimera will be whatever the original creature was, kaijufied with features from the donor, but it is possible for the Kaimera to have more features from the donor than the original creature. Whatever you think would make a good kaiju. There are other rules as well, ones that apply to all kaiju in the Age of Kaiju universe.

All kaiju in the AoK universe are mutants, made by a type of radiation dubbed Kaijiation. Kaijiation infects cells, mutating them to produce more Kaijiation, and so on. The resulting mutants are kaiju, with Kaijiation repelling the effects of gravity that would otherwise prevent them from existing, as well as giving them several other kaiju powers, like faster healing, durability, and occasionally energy attacks. Kaijiation also allows for flight, if wings are present, and most visually obvious is the extra limbs and/or spinal mutations caused during the process. It’s not going to happen 100% of the time, but extra arms, legs, heads, or tails are a common side effect, and Kaimera are even more likely to have them.

For anyone entering, you will pick two to five of your favorite animals, and make a Kaimera out of them. Anything over two will need a solid explanation for how it survives it’s mutation, unless it is using one of the methods mentioned above.

The winner, or winners, depending on how many people even enter or how many good ones come in, will become completely canon to the Age of Kaiju universe! They will be referenced in the series itself, with possible appearances as well. It’s not much, but it’s what I can definitely do, and if you have any requests about how they show up let me know, but be aware that I am still on book one, so it’s not exactly like I’m flying through the story here.

@godzillakiryu91 asked what would happen if my Formaerem and their Kaijiation created a Kaiju together, and it really got me thinking about what would be created as a result of Formaerem mixing with other people’s stuff. So I’ll make a post on it for fun, because why not?

@godzillakiryu91’s Kaijiation: Multi-headed and limbed Guardians who like to float a lot.

@dinosaurana’s Ymir Gene: During the horizontal gene transfer stage of Formaerem infusion the Ymir Gene is added to the new Guardian’s genetic code. This’ll result in a normal Guardian with an ability or feature that doesn’t really match up with the Guardian. The feature or ability will not be supernatural because Formaerem completely rejects supernatural things.

@tyrantisterror’s Yamaneon: The Yamaneon would just be torn apart on the atomic level to be used as body building materials for the Guardian during the Formaerem infusion process. I guess the Guardian could generate Yamaneon for body building purposes. Honestly it’s more likely that the Guardian Society would use Yamaneon as a Guardian superfood. Guardians are able to eat non-organic materials, and Yamaneon is incredibly energy rich. Plus I’d imagine that they’d taste like Pop Rocks to Guardians.

Kaiju in my Apocalypse Kaijuverse: COLOSSAL CANCEROUS CREATURE KAIJU WITH CRIPPLING DEPRESSION, SUICIDAL TENDENCIES, AND A MYRIAD OF OTHER MENTAL ILLNESSES.

BURROWER

Name: Grigous

Age of origin: Awakened Ancient.

Length/Height: 60 meters

Description: Grigous shares a body shape very similar to marsupial moles, covered in thick, shaggy white fur. Her eyeless face continues the resemblance, but is covered in a stone-like substance, and an organ can be seen pushing it’s way outwards, resembling the nose of a star nosed mole. The stone-like substance is also scattered across various places on her body. Her front limbs are thin and wide, with razor sharp claws on the ends that tear through rock with ease. Behind the front limbs is a middle pair, usually tucked against her chest, and her back pair is little more than a pair of fins, mostly for steering.

Abilities:

Honed Claws-Grigous’ claws are ridiculously sharp, able to tear through solid rock with ease. Not even a kaiju’s tough hide can stop them for long.

Burrowing

“Stone” armor-The stone-like growths are extremely thick and durable.

Extra Arms-The arms tucked against her chest are easily missed, even when one is examining her. They can be quite the surprise.

Weakness: Grigous is about as timid as they come. She runs from kaiju on sight, and even the military has been known to scare her off. She’s also not the fastest kaiju above ground, and if the rock is thick enough it can take time for her to dig through.

Backstory: Grigous is one of the ancient kaiju that was awoken from her thousand year slumber. What cause this is unknown, but the consequences have been felt worldwide. Luckily, Grigous is mostly harmless, as far as kaiju go. She usually pops out of the earth long enough to look around, seemingly in search of something, before retreating back to her subterranean home. Unfortunately, her tunneling has caused it’s fair share of problems.

How they Interact with Other Kaiju: Grigous is terrified of other kaiju, running away on sight. The reason for this is unknown, but it is believed to have something to do with the stone-like substance covering her body, which is actually scabs formed over thousands of years.

SEXY

Name: Draikinion

Age of origin: Modern Mutant

Length/Height:

Description: Draikinion is a mutant Draco lizard, her primary Kaijiation mutation comes in the form of her four forearms. Her skin has become purple in color, with a yellow underbelly, which her throat matches. Her wings have also grown significantly, more than just growing is size with her. They are wider than her entire body, and even when not extended are visible against her sides.

Abilities:

Gliding-The wings Draikinion possesses are not useful for full on flight, instead being used to glide, though why other wingless kaiju can fly is up for debate, so it may be something about mentality.

Sonic Chirps-Draikinion has the strange ability to make sounds that can damage opponents. These sounds range from disorienting blasts, to the occasional physically painful Sonic attack.

Weakness: Draikinion isn’t the largest or most durable kaiju, so she can very easily find herself being thrown around by opponents. It is best not to underestimate her though, as she has quite the powerful voice.

Backstory: Draikinion is another kaiju that was born through the random mutation caused by Kaijiation, though she has been a strange kaiju to say the least. Since her “birth” she has begun hoarding any object that catches her interest, big or small, living or not. Her hoard is a varied and dangerous place, as she has collected a whole city so far. The occupants of the city are also considered a pretty of her hoard, and are not allowed to leave. As of yet, there has been no solution found that does not involve somehow chasing Draikinion away, which has proven very difficult.

How they Interact with Other Kaiju: Draikinion is very territorial, keeping other kaiju outside of her hoard as best she can, using her sonic attacks to chase them away. Any that have managed to fight past them have entered melee combat with the kaiju, and she has proven that she isn’t quite as weak as she looks.

Appearance: Equimate stands on four short muscular legs, with two arms of a significantly longer length, not unlike a gorilla. Each hand has three fingers, tipped with sharp claws. Equimate’s face also resembles another animals, that of a horse. It shares roughly the same shape, but isn’t as(proportionally) long. The fur covering his body is mostly light brown, with a darker stripe going from his head to back end.

Age of Origin: Awakened Ancient

Height: 100 Meters

Abilities-Equimates front limbs give him a much longer reach than many other kaiju, which he can combine with his unique set of claws. These claws are deceptively sharp, and combined with his reach make for excellent keep away.

Weakness: Equimate’s long limbs can be just as much of a hindrance, as once within his reach it’s difficult for him to get a solid hit on you. However, this range is also where you are susceptible to a bone crushing squeeze by his powerful arms.

Backstory: Another of many awakened kaiju, Equimate is a massive herbivore that has made it’s home in North America. He has a calm disposition, happy to ignore anything not in his way. This does not mean he’s a benevolent kaiju, as “in his way” is difficult to determine. Any perceived obstacle is quickly and brutally demolished, be it a living thing or not. He leaves destruction is his wake, with even other kaiju failing to stop him.

How He Interacts with Other Kaiju: Any potential relationship Equimate could have with other kaiju is destroyed by the fact that just does not want one. Despite being the last of his kind, he doesn’t show any kind of loneliness. Other kaiju typically fall in the “in his way” category.

I have talked about Kaijiation at length already, and while those posts could use a little bit of tweaking, they’re accurate enough for me to get into another important aspect of Kaijiation, it’s ability to easily hybridize different life forms.

As a refresher, Kajiation “infects” living things on a cellular level, mutating those cells to produce more Kaijiation, in turn mutating more cells and so on. The end result is a kaiju, bigger than any normal creature, and repelling gravity through the Kaijiation now present in it’s body. When a kaiju’s infected cells are introduced into a non infected individual, those cells begin mutating the hosts cells as usual, but with the added effect of those original cells mixing with the hosts, making the host take on properties from the donor.

The hybrids can vary in how much of the original kaiju they take after, but the more infected cells, the more hybridized it will appear to be. It is important to know that there is a very strict limit to how much one can be hybridized, as the hybridization process already stressed the body to the extreme. It is only “safe” for two creature to be hybridized, as the stress of any more will be too much for the body, and they will die during the mutation process. Also important is the fact that humans hybridize with very little success.

Kaiju themselves are typically immune to hybridization, their cells already having mutated, therefore being highly resistant to further mutation, but there are a select few exceptions. Speaking of exceptions, the biggest exception of hen all is Jake, who is hybridized with many different kaiju. How he survived this is purely by chance, most likely due to his being an infant at the time, and the effects of it show drastically. The most obvious would be how different he looks from his kin, his armor being the most prominent visual cue. The armor was, in actuality, his body attempting to grow an exoskeleton, courtesy of insect kaiju cells. The process of the armors growth was excruciating, and phantom pains linger in the dragons body to this day.
