I think a lot about those years.
And I know that I am not quite yearning for them,
And I know I am satiated with
What has come to past.
But in some ways I am yearning for them—
I feel as though I have just blinked,
And everything has run past me.
It is the not being able to catch it
That has me running faster.
Kurt Vonnegut said something along the lines of
Everything is happening all at once—
Your past, your present, and your future
Are all mingling together amongst the moment,
But I cannot seem to grasp everything that has happened.
There are ghosts that haunt me,
But the scariest ones are the past versions of myself—
The ones that I cannot quite bring myself to face.
And it always feels like times were simpler
Right back there in the past,
But I know that things were as messy then
As they are now.
But to sit again in my father’s house—
The room above the basement—
Sharpieing quotes on the walls…
That might just be something that I’d make an exchange for.

i don’t write much anymore, but hi
an ode to perfection 1-31-2017
Rapturous—The way you leap across the room
Swinging on every heartstring as you pass.
You waltz into conversations languidly
Like you’ve been dancing all your life,
Yet you are carefree in the most calculated way—
If that’s even possible.
The freedom you have in your eyes
Is only that of the free-spirited nature of a child.
You are innocent like a child too,
Yet you know exactly what you are doing somehow.
You always get what you want,
But you never have to ask for it.
People just seem to throw gifts at your feet
Like you’re Jesus Christ or something.
But instead of gold, frankincense and myrrh,
You get your every desire along with
The giver’s heart attached to it.
You are a heartbreaker without even trying to be.
I don’t even know if you are conscious of it.
You never asked to be so magnetic
Just like the sun never asked to be so damn bright,
And the oceans never asked to be so violent and blue.
I think you are the closest human example
Of an angel or even a fairy.
It sounds farfetched or corny,
But everything you do and are
Is just as magical as one, maybe even more so.
How do you do it?
I can’t even begin to comprehend.
I’ve known you forever,
And I feel like I should know you like the back of my hand—
Better than I know myself.
But you are as much as a mystery to me as the dark side of the moon—
An alien—A stranger.
You’ll only grow more radiant as time passes.
I can attest to that because I have seen you as time has gone on.
You are a shining thing in this world that attracts other shining things,
But they will all pale in comparison to you.
I’ll never forget you either—
You could disappear today, traceless off the face of the Earth,
And I wouldn’t forget your face
Or the way you talk
Or the way you enter a room like you already know everyone in it.
The image of you is perfectly embedded in my mind—
Never waning or fading.
And I don’t even mind it.
To put it in fewer words,
You’re nothing short of perfection—one of a kind.
You grace the lives of others
As you have graced mine.
I’ve witnessed a once occurring event,
And I’m lucky for that.
