I’ve been meaning to post for some time about my other Arcana OC, one of my first - this is ‘Lady’.
Just as Julian, Lady is a fugitive of the law, also on the run from the Countess. During the time of investigation, before Asra’s apprentice was taken in as the main detective, Lady was one of the many people who came to the palace to help find out what happened the night of the Count’s death. A fortune teller by trade, Lady gave her hand at what she thought happened, and regardless of the Countess’ constant hatred towards Julian, Lady struggled to condemn him in her cards - she believed him to be innocent.
Although due to the Countess’ strong beliefs she tried her best to find anything leading to the doctor, but she could not. Nadia was simply furious with Lady and one evening an argument was struck up, and through sheer anxiety and terror, Lady accidentally caused some form of bodily harm to the Countess, Lady never stated what it was, and from defending Julian and accidentally harming Nadia - she was on the run.
It wasn’t long until she actually met the famous Doctor and when she revealed her story, the guilt he felt for her was indescribable - so he made it his mission to protect her. He would walk her home from the Rowdy Raven, he’d taught her basic medicine, he made sure she kept from the light of day, but regardless of what he did, he always knew Lady was to come to an inevitable end. He knew her anxiety would get the better of her, and one day during a guard clear out of the Rowdy Raven, a day he wasn’t there, she was captured and taken prisoner.
The day of her hanging Julian risked it all to go to the stands to watch the ordeal, standing hidden behind the crowds and walls as he watched the woman he had tried so hard to protect have a noose tied around her neck. He didn’t know why he wanted to see the ordeal, perhaps to see her one last time? Perhaps to make it register in his brain that she was going to die?
On the sight of her he was affronted - they’d cut all her long hair off and she only stood in a long chiffon dress of white, all of the personality she had gained was stripped from her and he wondered if that would be him too one day - but still, as he watched, the lever was pulled and the floor beneath Lady collapsed and she was hung.
Guilt.
The night MC meets him outside the Rowdy Raven in my verse is the same day Lady was strung up, which is why the Countess did the chasing game, a huge distraction for MC - this is also the reason Julian was getting happily drunk that night in my verse.
There is another version of her story where she works with another Arcana OC called Artemis and she defies her hanging etc, but her true story kills her. RIP Lady!
Oh and Lady is her cover name, her true name is Giavana!
