Just-in-Time Manufacturing: Maximizing Profits
Dr. Rotimi Aderohunmu retired in 2014 from his role as an associate professor of business information and analytics at the University of Denver’s Daniels College of Business. During his time with the institution, Dr. Rotimi Aderohunmu researched various complex business concepts, including just-in-time manufacturing. Just-in-time manufacturing is a strategy that minimizes waste during manufacturing by only supplying the parts needed to complete the production of ordered items. First introduced in Japan in the 1970s, the concept allows manufacturers to reduce their unused inventory and avoid the expense of maintaining an unnecessary stock of parts. By utilizing the just-in-time inventory control approach, businesses maximize their profit margin and have more funds available for other business purposes. This system does require manufacturers to have highly efficient machines and a set of suppliers that are immediately ready to send parts as requested. Just-in-time manufacturing is a valuable component of the continuous improvement plan of a variety of businesses.
