Making up my own lore about the evolution of holidays in the Deponia universe.
With the ever changing landscape of religion and social aspects in the dying world, the departed Elysians ended up with Festimas, where you throw out the old and bring in the new. It originally heralded the change of fashion or general style, but things have stagnated and now it's like, buying the same fridge but in a slightly different shade.
Deponia ended up with Junkmas, which falls the day after Festimas. With the rain of new trash from the city, Junkmas is about repurposing and sharing your junk with others. There are still Christmas elements retained, gift giving and mistletoe kissing, but it is mostly about trying to get rid of what you don't want and getting newer, cooler stuff.
