a prodigious rising star before she came to Darkwick, her membership was sought after by each of the 5 eligible dorms.

unsurprisingly, Frostheim won. (there are a lot of rumors of Kamurai "buying" her into Frostheim, still unconfirmed.)

she was thus unceremoniously dumped into Frostheim and left to adjust with her own devices.

a short time after arriving, however, she suddenly and completely lost motivation to succeed, and her presence in Frostheim was soon forgotten, as were the hopes many had pinned on her.

now she spends most of her time trying to find a way out of Darkwick. it is unknown what caused her sudden shift in attitude, from when she was willing to work to the bone to get into Japan’s most prestigious academy to doing anything to escape.

one of her more desperate attempts involved attempting to make a pact with a demon (she later admitted to it not being a wise decision), and it did not work. in fact, it only made her eye worse.

due to her injury, the artifact granted to her by DA is a form of anomalous medicine meant to numb pain that the bearer experiences, which she modified into an eye patch.

without it, the pain would be unbearable and she would not be able to function, even though she is very good at hiding pain.

what is a Belarusian doing in Japan? what a great question! it is undeniable that before she came to Darkwick, she had her sights set on attending the prestigious academy, especially given its reputation. why she specifically chose Darkwick out of other academies remains a mystery. :)

her family was very influential back in Belarus. she has a twin brother, who overshadows her in many ways, and in some ways her emigration to Darkwick is considered an escape.

all we know is that after she got here, something caused her to suddenly change her mind and she started trying to escape.

because of past escape attempts, she is no longer allowed to apply for an R&R permit (although it doesn’t stop her from trying, to Tohma’s annoyance)

it should be stated that Darkwick isn’t actually keeping her there, but due to complicated circumstances concerning the validity of her visa etc. she is stuck.

she offers a stark contrast to the ghouls, who can’t really leave. her multiple escape attempts and lack of disciplinary action resulting from it frustrates many of the ghouls, especially the ones that remember the clash.

is the type to smoke sulkily in a corner while staring disdainfully at others with her remaining eye.

periodically tries to get herself dress-coded by just. not wearing the uniform (or wearing it incorrectly) (it doesn't work, ends up with more detention)

is currently stuck between finishing Darkwick coursework so fast she can skip grades and get out of this place or defying the system and trying to escape like the anomalies contained there

In the beginning, Romeo uses her stigma to help him collect debts (integrated into his faction) but she very quickly became independent and built a faction of her own within Sinostra.

Romi still thinks she's under his thumb but she's secretly using her stigma to manipulate others to her ulterior motives.

What are her ulterior motives, you say?

We do know she transferred to Sinostra between her 2nd and 3rd year after the Clash.

Look. If you don't owe her anything, she won't bother you. If you don't have information for her, she won't bother you.

Helps Romi run the casino, further reinforcing his belief that she's under his thumb

(He's not stupid, he knows something's up, but as long as it's not interfering with casino profits, he doesn't care)

Would definitely be the kind of person to do insider trading and get away with it if she was in the right circumstances

She is also sometimes selfish. It's Sinostra. Not all of the information she collects goes to the captain or vice-captain. Not all of the cash she collects goes to them, either.

For newer students who have no idea what she's like, she can seem really kind and caring, all the while holding a (metaphorical) knife to their kidneys

People fear interacting with her because if you interact with her it's most likely because she has an ulterior motive

Do not underestimate the amount of information she can draw from one interaction with you

Appearance:

Allergic to cats. Very, very allergic to cats. Is not surviving in Darkwick.

Grew up in a very strict, religious family in Belgium. Secretly hated it.

Religious trauma to the max. (Yes. Haruka and Haku do trauma bond over this.)

Backstory/Wish: She'd rather not talk about it. Let's just say it left her relationship with her family in ruins.

The Belgian branch of the Institute did not want to deal with a ghoul and thought "hey her name's Japanese she'll surely survive in Japan!" (she surely is not surviving in Japan.)

Her stigma incantation is Marikis, which enables her to heal any (non-fatal) wound, with the drawback that she will then experience those same wounds on her own body. She cannot use her stigma to heal herself.

Haruka using her stigma on fatal wounds means that she is guaranteed to die.

Because of the nature of her stigma, both she and Jiro are medically dependent on Yuri and she particularly delights in being a headache for him.

Has so much energy. Somewhat insane. Would be diagnosed with ADHD if she ever got evaluated.

The one time she's not bouncing off the walls is when she's doing lab work, and is able to carry on the lab work for days on end without rest because of how much energy she's got.

Will often lose track of time in the lab.

Her artifact is a (mostly) functional anomalous earring that serves as her translator, because, as mentioned before, she is not surviving in Japan.

The earring sort of warps everyone's perceptions of her so that it will appear to them that she is speaking in their native language. However, it does malfunction like. 40% of the time, so sometimes she will be dependent on Luca to help translate.

She can speak French, English, Dutch, and even some Chinese she picked up, but cannot speak Japanese to save her life. She can. At most. Speak like a three year-old.

Is still actively attempting to learn Japanese, don't worry!

She is bisexual! Will sometimes go on dates with ghouls, GA students, and sometimes flirts with MC, but she doesn't really attempt to take things further with MC as much because the other ghouls' reactions scare her.

Ritsu takes her headstrong personality and her bisexuality and takes it as an opportunity to offer legal services to help her legalize same-sex marriage in Japan. She admires his support but also isn't interested in that issue right now?? And also stop trying to profit off of people's oppression Ritsu?

She is also so spiteful. So, so spiteful. She once threatened to make Luca watch her make tea "avec la méthode américaine" because he took what she said too literally. (Bro didn't know what she meant, and probably also didn't know what she implied with this threat either)

Will also sometimes stare down various animals in the Jabberwock park

Haruka somehow found Yuri's isekai manga stash and is totally blackmailing him with it. (But like. /lh. She only uses it when she wants him to sign an R&R permit for her)

Does sometimes feed to his stash. She will often slide new volumes or manga recommendations under his door but only to get more blackmail.

Does not sugarcoat things. Very blunt. Having two ghouls that do this gives Mortkranken a bad rep, but neither of them care lmao

Is, however, strongly justice-driven when people she cares about get hurt. Ep. 14... let's just say that one scene has different ending if she's there.

Loves H2H and Sho's cooking, and will get feral if anyone cuts in line ahead of her.

Because of Haruka's occasional reliance on Luca for translation, Yuri uses her as a messenger between Frostheim and Mortkranken on the occasion that this communication is strictly necessary. She doesn't like that her weakness is being exploited like this, but it's a "necessary evil," as Yuri calls it, and she begrudgingly complies.

Has a much lower sleep deprivation tolerance than the other Mortkanken ghouls and will tap out much earlier than they will.

Don't be surprised if she suddenly collapses, though. She does have a tendency to keep working past her body's limits, much to Yuri's frustration.

Her headstrong/stubborn personality and Yuri's ambition often clash on missions, but they find a way to make it work.

Somehow getting Benkei to keep spicy cup noodles in stock in the campus store. We don't know what kind of deal they struck, but the fear that enters Benkei's eyes when asked is unmistakable. HARUKA WHAT DID YOU DO

Lowkey hates Ed (for unexplained reasons, maybe just the vibes?) and will avoid him at all costs. The rest of the Obscuary ghouls, however, are tolerable! She enjoys spending time with Rui and Lyca.

Zenji not visible to Haruka but if he was alive they would’ve been best friends

Barely shows up to class, but somehow still passes the exams. The professors are convinced she's cheating. (She's not. She's just really good at making things up.)

Cannot function on campus or near the main building because of the cats so many people outside of Mortkranken don't know if she actually exists lmao

Other ghouls:

Jin: Will talk back when she feels that he's ordering MC around too much. He listens to her sometimes, because she sometimes reminds him of another Mortkranken ghoul.

Tohma: Somewhat frustrated by his elusive demeanor. She is so suspicious of him but he has no intention of making her trust him, either.

Kaito: She avoids. (He does not know she exists.) Ever since she heard that he can see auras, she avoids him because she's scared that he can see her guilt over her past and what she did.

Alan: Does not know she exists

Leo: Does not know she exists

Haru: Literally the most best friends best friends could ever be. Their energy levels are practically unmatched (although Haru's is fueled by caffeine).

Towa: Enjoys the fact that she also likes to frolic and whimsy, also sometimes finds her doing staring contests with the animals

Ren: Does not know she exists

Taiga: Does not know/Forgets that she exists

Romeo: Does not trust her in the casino but still sees her as a potential customer for something... he just hasn't figured out what yet.

Subaru: She finds his calm and polite mannerisms endearing, but also kind of fears him because he's one of the most likely to find out her past. She feels too guilty to turn down his invitations, though.

Rui: Enjoys his bar and his angst lmao. Will also often converse with Rui in the botanical garden as she's watching Jiro frolic harvest and Rui is watching Lyca.

Lyca: Sees him as a younger brother, much to Lyca's chagrin. But they do sometimes work on homework together.

none of my TKDB OCs were made for shipping, so any relationships are purely platonic or friendly.

I love Haruka’s dynamic with Yuri because sometimes I feel like her entire purpose is to make his life a living hell loll

(cw self harm ->) Due to the nature of her stigma, she is also medically dependent on Yuri, but not to the same extent Jiro is. She’ll often conduct experiments on herself to test her stigma and, if botched, faces an exasperated Yuri lecturing her on the consequences of recklessly injuring yourself.

He acknowledges that she’s useful in the lab though, her (seemingly) boundless energy allowing her to have a longer stamina in pulling all-nighters than GA students (although not as long as the other ghouls)

And also having another ghoul in Mortkranken would increase the chances of capturing anomalies and expediting research, especially since some GA students are… unwilling.

She’ll step in and cover for Jiro when he disappears, forcing Yuri to have somewhat of a reliance on her.

Haruka: Yuriii pleaseee just approve my research proposal

Yuri: Don’t you understand the importance of my work here?? Clearly it’s not as high of a priority as mine, so get to work making my solutions!

For Maki, I love her relationship with Romeo because even though he’s her superior in rank she is definitely challenging his position and his orders.

She’s got a faction of her own GA students in Sinostra which consists entirely of former Romeo or Taiga faction members, but isn’t as big as the captain or vice-captain’s. Both Taiga and Romeo are unhappy that they lost members of their faction to Maki but hey what can they do

It’s always a power struggle between the two, but she will begrudgingly work the tables when he tells her to so that she can use her stigma to glean information off the customers

He sometimes trusts her with watching the EITS and she also uses it to gather more information about people :)))) (sinister smile)

Essentially, they’re constantly trading gossip about others for their own gain, and it can get soo tense when they try to hold the information about others over each other
