Let’s take a closer look at that teamwork.

1/ Juke Boxx and Arocha escort Scald out of bounds while one London blocks acts as bridge and the 4th blockers plays offense.

2/ Juke Boxx and Arocha take the inside line to run back, which is a much shorter path than Scald’s outside lane (allowing them to bridge back further and reset before Scald can enter). Pay attention to the footwork and navigation through the pack to avoid the Rose blockers.

Derby Crush: Juke Boxx - Minnesota Roller Girls, Team USA

Juke's background in jam skating makes her skating style truly unique. Her fluidity on the track, unwavering agility, her solid and skillful blocks, her mastery of her edges,  and her always impressive apex-jumps (even when blocking! It's awesome) are the things dreams are made of.

I remember the first time I saw her skate was at Brewhaha 2010 in the Windy vs Madison game. All my thoughts that weren't on their cute uniforms were, 'Damn, that A18 girl is a BEAST'. She completely stood out from everyone else on the track (even against Windy, who was one of my very first derby loves) and stole my heart.

Though I got to sit behind the Minnesota bench at Rollercon 2012 (If you ever get the chance to sit behind the bench of a team, do it! I love hearing the teams talk about how to overcome the opposing strategy, personal feelings of defeat, and seeing how other teams do their lines and such! I always learn a lot from this), I didn't have the guts to talk to her. I just found out she will not be playing in the ARRG vs Minnesota game next weekend, so I'm going to miss her again! So instead, I will fangirl from afar :)
