Here it is- my magnum opus of how Loptous became who they are in Jugdral. This was written for Day 2 of Jugdral Week: Dragon/Demon.
it’s day one and i’m already getting deja vu
Jugdral Week Day 1: Heroes and Villains
“ARVIS, YOU DASTARD-”
Arvis closed his eyes as he cast his Valflame, silencing his old friend. “I take no joy from this, Sigurd. Please understand.” He whispered. Once the spell had died down, Arvis peaked out at the scene unfolding before him.
Sigurd’s army had put up a fight, of course. Arvis expected as much- Meteor was a horribly inaccurate spell, and Sigurd’s army wouldn’t have gone down so quickly to it. Most of them had survived long enough to break through the line Arvis’ soldiers had set up around them, and were now fleeing in all directions. Some had fallen in battle, without any tactician giving them orders.
The leader of Arvis’ war mages approached him. “Sir, we could follow them down. They haven’t much of a head start, and-”
Arvis held his hand up. “Let them run. With no figure head to rally under, they’ll just scatter across the winds. I doubt any will be a problem.” He reasoned.
“... Sir, may I ask?” The captain ventured. “Is this mercy because Azel is among them?”
Arvis, sneered. “My brother died when he sided with Kurth’s murderer.” He turned and began walking back towards his castle. “This is a tactical decision- I’d rather have my trusted soldiers with me, than running about hunting enemies who pose no threat anymore.” Arvis turned his back to the captain. “Have everyone return to the castle. We have much to discuss…”
Deirdre was waiting in their room when Arvis returned. “My lord…” she approached him when he sat down on their bed, head in his hands. “Kurth’s murderers… Have they been..?”
Arvis looked at his wife, and smiled. “They have been… taken care of. You’ve nothing to fear, my love.” He pulled her close. “Deirdre… Sigurd seemed to have known you. Hd you ever met before?”
Deirdre though hard. “I have never seen him. I was just surprised when I saw him… He was no murderer. I felt as such when we met briefly out there, and-”
“Then you felt wrong.” Arvis said bluntly. “Sigurd’s father killed your father. He stood beside that traitor, and would have come for you too, no doubt.” He lifted her chin up, looking into her eyes. “Sigurd was a villain. But your hero has taken care of it all.”
