On his first day at school, James didn't say anything, but when he heard Morgie's clock ticking he panicked and almost screamed at Smee for help, but instead he ran out of the room leaving Morgie talking to himself. He returned hours later, but didn't explain anything to Morgie, who didn't insist any more.

James spent a week without sleeping well because of the ticking of Morgie's watch and it wasn't until young Le Fay noticed it completely that he asked him if something bad was happening and after much talk James ended up confessing his fear of the ticking of a crocodile that always follows him in Neverland. Morgie understood this and kept the watch in one of his suitcases until he was able to find a spell that silenced the watch.
