Year 2: Week 4 of my State Weekly Recipe Challenge (aka #unitedstatesofappetite): California. . . For California I reached out to a few people and they said either a burrito or a fish taco, so I made both! But we split the burritos. . . I also made it’s-its for dessert. Partly because of #jessethorn keeps talking about them to @jordandavidmorris on #jordanjessego all the time. . . I have to say this whole meal was rather delicious. And burritos are hard to wrap as hell. . . Fish tacos are a staple in the Baja California. And some say they go as far back as 1958. Not many can decide where exactly they started however. . . The Mission burrito got started around the same time in the Mission District of San Francisco. It’s different from other burritos because of its size and extra rice. There’s a few different claims of who first created them. Some say Raul and Micaela Duran who sold them from their meat market. Others say the owner of El Faro sold the first set of them in 1961 to a group of SF firefighters. Some go even further back to the miners of the 19th century. . . And it’s-its were also a San Francisco delicacy. But they are started much earlier in 1928.
