Why yes, it does get even weirder. Our president does not read. And if he does, he definitely fails at reading comprehension. I struggle with how we got to this point. How were we so gullible? And I use the collective WE because even though I did not vote for him, I did not do enough to persuade others to NOT VOTE for him. He was constitutionally elected and he is the president. Now we have to figure out how to get him out.
As Americans, we cannot lose faith in this spectacular experiment of democracy, started by our founding fathers, and mothers. This has been my greatest fear. His need for power would sicken those of us who believe in our bones that each individual is created equal. Sickness leads to disheartening, to disillusion, to apathy. When we stop caring, that is when all hope is lost and the experiment has failed. It fails when we give up. I have found ways to make sure I do not give up. One, is this blog. So far, I have not hopped on here every day or moment to vent when something happens and I feel pissed, but the option is always there. Nice to know I have a place to thought dump. Another thing I have done is read The Soul of America: The Battle for Our Better Angels by Jon Meacham. Having a historical perspective on what we have faced in the past has helped me to face the emotions I confront when I read and/or see the news as it is happening today. As a nation, we have been in horrible spots before. When we stick to the principle that ALL PERSONS are created equal, we come out on top. There are rough patches, but America comes out stronger when we make decisions that lead us all toward greater equality.
