☆▐▐ THE BEGINNING AND THE END
The humming of the fan resonated through the tiny home. Hyuna was sprawled on the floor next to it, dark hair dancing in all directions. It was the hottest day of the summer, too hot to leave the house and buy ice cream. She wouldn't be allowed to leave, though--someone needed to be home in case they showed up. Her mother was gone long before Hyuna even woke up. She assumed one of the higher-ups had sent her off on a delivery job. It was rare, but it happened. Her brother had left shortly after Hyuna woke up, urging her to stay put and explaining he had a few errands to run. Too tired to protest, Hyuna waved him off and splayed on the cold tile near the front door.
Hyuna couldn't anticipate anyone stopping by today--surely even drug lords were affected by summer's heat once in a while, right? Perhaps it was wishful thinking; Hyuna could list at least a hundred things she'd rather do on a day like today than answer the door to some scar-faced goon carrying bags of drugs; like jump off a building, for example. At least the rush of air would cool her down before splattering all over the steaming asphalt. "Or swim with sharks," she mumbled. Nothing was more refreshing on a disgustingly hot day than a dip in the ocean, even if sharp-toothed animals lingered near your toes.
It wasn't long until Hyuna hardly felt any affect from the fan, as if it were blowing even warmer air in her direction. She peeled herself from the floor, drowsily padding into the kitchen to pour herself a glass of water. Reaching into the cabinet proved to be too challenging a task; Hyuna opted to hold her head under the tap until she was efficiently hydrated. Sliding down the wall, Hyuna planted herself on the kitchen floor, eyes fluttering and sleep threatening to grasp her.
Little did she know, and grim surprise would be approaching her door any minute.
