Jaia Cruz, a trans woman of color, was sentenced to FIFTEEN YEARS for defending herself agaisnt a violent transmisogynist, and Johnathan Joss, an indigenous gay man, was recently murdered in a shooting. He protected his husband in his final moments, despite all of this being preventable had the police did anything about the constant homophobic threats and harassment they received from their neighbors.

To no one’s surprise, conservative media (specifically NY Post) is already publishing articles covering up significant details about each of these cases. One such example involved painting Jaia as “pure evil” when she was being verbally abused and physically attacked until she stabbed him in self-defense. Another claimed Johnathan and his husband “got into a dispute” with Sigfredo Ceja Alvarez (the shooter) when the shooting was an entirely premeditated hate crime based on Tristan’s account.

Lest we forget that only a couple of months ago, the torture and murder of Sam Nordquist, a black trans man, was discovered.

We’re not even a WEEK into Pride Month. Stay vigilant of your surroundings. Keep your community close. We need to prioritize protecting ourselves and our own, especially when queer people of color are among our most vulnerable.

I try not to make posts like this here because I understand y'all don't follow me for political reasons. So once again this is an isolated post but a very important one.

I just got off the phone with the mayor of San Antonio by the way you can call her because she is the boss of the chief of police who's saying that this wasn't a hate crime : 2102077107

Call her and tell her that you demand that the chief of police be fucking fired. Tell her to do her job tell her to get involved. Tell her that this man is neglectful of his civil duties as a chief of police.

Call her and tell her to fire him. Call her and tell her to do her fucking job and fucking fire him. And tell her you're coming for her job next and going over her head to her boss if she doesn't take action.

Angry enough like I am?

I also advise that you call the actual police station of San Antonio and let them know you're outrage as well as I have done.

He hadn't even been publicly out and married to his husband Tristan for a year before he was murdered by a man who had been tormenting them for months. He saved Tristan's life that day and lost his own.

And today his final project goes live.

One of Joss's final public actions was to announce he was working on a project called 2 Sides of Every Coin. It's a comic series in the style of a Western that he was working on with a friend, Gary Yap (best known for his artistic and production work on King of the Hill and The Simpsons).

Gary, with the permission and blessing of Tristan, has endeavored to finish the story he and Joss set out to tell.

The Kickstarter ends at the end of June and they are only asking for $2500. For the uninitiated, Kickstarter campaigns are all or nothing. So that sum must be met in order for the project to go forward.

The comic is only $5 for a digital copy or $10 for a physical. For the comic collectors out there, there is also a $200 variant cover which is the only acceptable variant for this piece made in memoriam for a dear friend.

I must admit, I am not really a big comic or graphic novel person but I've been thinking about this case and Joss's husband Tristan every day since it happened. To be just at the beginning of such a wonderful journey and to be cut down with such hatred. It's beyond words.

This year's pride needs to be about action. About not rolling over and accepting fascism. About not leaving any of our siblings behind.

Otherwise people like Sigfredo Ceja Alvarez will win. And I refuse to let that happen.

On the 1st of June in Texas Johnathan Joss, a queer Native man best known for voicing the character Redcorn on King of the Hill, along with his husband returned to their burned down home were they found the body of their deceased dog laid out on the lawn. A neighbor then approached and began hurling homophobic slurs at the couple, brandishing a gun. Johnathan pushed his husband out of the way and was fatally shot, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
