Writing prompt
Ronaldo inspires Connie to write her own blog about her adventures with the Crystal Gems and then Peridot begins sending shit-posts.
“Whatcha doin’?”
Connie glances up off of her chromebook from where Steven was looking over her shoulder. The two were able to squeeze in a small meeting to hang out together at Connie’s house- after defeating the Cluster, Steven welcomed the chance to hang out with his friend and had arrived just a few moments ago.
“Just finishing up the rest of my homework- oh hey, I made a blog a while ago if you wanna see it!” Connie says before adding the last bit in.
“Like Ronaldo’s?” Steven asks, having not much knowledge of the aforementioned item save for the Fryman’s elder son determination to update it with whatever he found.
“Yeah- well, he’s the one who suggested it to me,” Connie answers. “He thought that his fans might want to hear about the weird things happening around Beach City from someone who lived through them yet was a relatively normal person- or that’s what he said at least. There was a lot more flailing involved.”
“Wow, that’s so cool I’d love to see it!” Steven exclaims, stars in his eyes.
“Okay then!” Connie says back, eyes shinning as well as she typed in her login info. However, her face fell as she saw a warning in her spam. “Oh no...”
“What’s wrong?” Steven asks concerned but Connie gently shakes her head and says, “Don’t worry, this’ll only take a few seconds,” before deleting the content in it.
“Anyways, I write about what I’ve gone through with you and the Gems and your adventures and sometimes I even draw some pictures to help illustrate it,” she continues to explain, scrolling down the page so Steven can see better.
He saw a picture of himself and gems as they were combating Peridot’s robo-guys before he had actually met her face-to-screen in the Kindergarden. Underneath it was a brief description.
Once more, the pale green spherical machines had come. Over and over, the Crystal Gems would beat them back- but they would keep coming over and over again. It was only when their kind-hearted protege-
“Is the kind-hearted protege me?” Steven asks.
“Uh-huh.”
Steven can’t help blushing at the comment before returning to reading. It was only when their kind-hearted protege suggested following the insidious contraptions so that they could learn their secrets led them back to the desolate wasteland that had been used to sap the planet dry.
There was a space from where the entry ended and Steven noticed a reply from one TechnicianExtraordinaire.
The term is not “sap”, you misled buffoon
He is concerned and asks Connie, “Do you have anymore?”
“Yeah- here, I’ll show you the archives,” Connie says and brings up the whole list of the entries she made and Steven clicked one of the older ones.
The first sign of the machine was through a telescope but it was clear to anyone that the crimson eye-esque orb descending upon the beach was nothing but trouble. Although the companions tried to stop the insidious sphere, their efforts were in vain. All that could be counted on to destroy it was an old relic of their leader- a cannon that projected powerful energies that had been used in the wars of the world.
Steven smiles at the story, remembering how they had stopped the Red Eye from destroying most of Beach City. He could still see the image of Rose Quartz blasting apart the red machine.
He also sees four of the same images be batted away by the giant green space-hand that had brought Peridot, Jasper and Lapis to earth.
The boy shakes his head- he was here to have fun, not think about that stuff. He continues reading the entry until he finds the replies. Again, he sees TechnicianExtraordinaire had left a reply as well, the most recent in fact.
If you’re not going to get the names of items straight, then stop flipping saying the wrong things and keep your nose out of people’s business
He continues to scroll through the entries and each time, he finds TechnicianExtraordinaire as the most recent post, and always saying something negative. Eventually, he finds Connie’s entry on how they stopped the Cluster and the reply that they give is longer than the entire post and he can barely understand a third of it.
“Hey Connie, who’s TechnicianExtraordinaire?” he asks her.
“Ugh, them again?” Connie sighs as she looks over his shoulder. “They’re a pretty recent viewer who keeps sending posts about how I’m either biased, got the terminologies wrong or that I should keep my nose out of other people’s business.”
He frowns at this- who could be sending these to Connie?
When he gets home, all the while trying to avoid the new wave of debris, Steven flops down on his bed. He still enjoyed hanging out with Connie but the new user brought his mood down- he wishes they weren’t so judgmental. Connie said before a lot of the people on the internet were like that but it still makes him sad actually seeing it.
Later that night, Steven is woken up by a fierce clacking noise. His eyes flit open and his irises dart side to side, trying to see what was making the noise. He then sees a light at the lower floor, near where the computer was. This confuses him because none of the gems really used it all that much and he already had a strict schedule on when to use it and when not to.
He pulls off his covers and slowly creeps down the stairs until he sees an ominous triangle in front of the computer, typing furiously away with a mug of hot cocoa by the keyboard.
“Peridot?” he says, making her squeak in surprise and nearly knock the cup over as she whirls around to see him before grabbing it in her hands securely.
“Steven, what are you doing up- isn’t this the time you use to recharge?” she hisses before taking a furtive sip of the liquid, her lips stretching around the rim and her tongue lapping briefly. “Also, if you could procure more ground espresso bits, that would be appreciated.”
“Sorry- you kind of woke me up,” Steven apologizes before glancing behind her. “I didn’t even know you used the computer- didn’t you say that it was too primitive and was underneath your gaze?”
“I apologize for that- it wasn’t my intention to interrupt you,” Peridot says before going on, “Pearl, Amethyst and Garnet were all busy so I took the liberty of exploring the domestic area before I found this machine. I explored the web to sate my boredom while waiting for your return.”
“You played on the computer?”
“I do not play- I explore, and learn. While I had to disable the child safety and immediately regretted such an act before employing it again so that it would hold for all eternity- or at least as long as this lives- I found my searches surprisingly fruitful,” Peridot says, her expression morphing into disgust before shaking her head and continuing, “While humans have unusual ways of wasting their time and theories that would get them laughed right off of homeworld, some of their items proved to be entertaining- some even interesting.”
Steven can’t help smiling at this- Peridot had changed so much since she last tried to stomp him with a giant gem hand and he is truly happy for her seeing how earth is like.
“Speaking of which, I stumbled upon a site that somehow got information of your activities,” Peridot says, snapping him out of his thoughts. “Not only is it painfully inaccurate but I had to create an alias just to tell them that! While I am glad at least that our work won’t go unnoticed by the populace but these mistakes are intolerable and their writer should be deeply shamed of themselves!”
Now Steven knew who exactly TechnicianExtraordinaire was.
--------------------
The next day, Steven quickly took Peridot over to Connie’s.
“Wait, you’re TechnicianExtraordinare?!” Connie exclaims before asking, “Why did you send all of those?”
“Well besides your terrible use of terminology, you were misinterpreting the struggles Steven and the others and I went through!” Peridot says back. “While I am pleased that your populace is shown who just saved their collectives butts, I cannot tolerate how badly it was revealed!”
“Well, I can understand that but if I used their real names then someone might be able to connect two and two and go after them- like the government!”
Perdiot blinks in surprise at this before her expression becomes thoughtful.“Oh I see- so then the blatant misuse of terminology and cringe-worthy entries were to protect Steven-!”
“Yeah,” Connie says with a nod before looking back at her blog, “still, there are some entries that could have been worded better...”
“I apologize for inadvertently hurting your feelings.”
“Well, at least you weren’t trying to troll me or spam me.”
“Speaking of misinterpetation, one FrymanofConspiracy is even worse at this- I’ve been planning a very strong-worded reply...”
