Incident one hundred miles off the coast of Guadalcanal. Time: The present (April 1963). A United States destroyers, on what has been a most uneventful cruise. In a moment, they're going to send a man down thirty fathoms and check on a noisemaker - someone or something tapping on metal. You may or may not read the results in a naval report, because Captain Beecham and his crew have just set a course that will lead this ship and everyone on it - into the Twilight Zone.

Lieutenant Hackle
IID Hackle was an investigator for the Internal Affairs division of the Gotham Police Department. He was assigned to investigate a botched sting that resulted in missing funds that were meant be used as bait. Hackle was a thorough investigator and was quite hard on those involved, including officers Montoya, Wilkes, and Detective Bullock. Faced with conflicting testimonies, Hackle suspected that either one or all parties were responsible and potentially corrupt. As such he issued suspensions to all three.
Hackle was less than pleased that Montoya went out on her own and, with the aide of Batman, was able to close the case and regain the lost evidence. Despite Hackle’s protests, Commissioner Gordon fiercely defended his officers. The criminals were in custody and the GCPD had recovered the bait money. There was nothing left to investigate so Gordon closed the case and reinstated Montoya, Wilkes and Bullock. A scornful Hackle was forced to agree with Gordon’s decision.
Actor John Considine provided the voice for Hackle with the investigator appearing the thirteenth episode of the first season of Batman: The Animated Series, ‘P.O.V.’

“Let's just save that part of the story for our grandchildren. Who else would believe it? I figure that's the only thing worse than what war does to men's bodies - what it does to their minds.”
