In Rod Sterlingâs original script for the 1968 âPlanet of the Apes,â the ape culture was more comparable to contemporary humanâ modern, with skyscrapers, cars, and even helicopters. The script was rewritten to make it more affordable.

The character of âThomasâ (Taylor in the film) looks more like James Franciscus (Brent in the âBeneathâ sequel) than Charlton Heston from the first film. The apes are designed to resemble actual apes, not the pseudo-apes from John Chambersâ award-winning make-up design.
