The End of the End of Oak Street
Oak Street finally has an RT score - 83%. But I’ve decided to skip Oak Street for now (and cancel my ticket).
According to the Internet review sites, we were under a review embargo until today, the 12th. Usually for blockbusters, the reviews are released much earlier to create excitement. If the studio thinks the movie is crap, they leave the embargo to the very last minute, so that bad reviews don’t discourage people.
Although Oak Street has an 83% score, a few of the negative reviews cast doubt for me. Several of them reference Steven Spielberg and Amblin. That brings to mind JJ Abrams’ movie “Super 8” from 2011. That felt like a carbon copy of a Spielberg movie. Oak Street is produced by JJ Abrams, so ultimately that’s why I’m giving up on the movie.
LA TIMES
How great if this type of four-quadrant filmmaking didn’t have to cosplay as a begotten relic
Mashable:
If you're looking for carefree summer fun, look elsewhere. The End of Oak Street is not fun. It's bleak, brutal, and ultimately infuriating

Can we please stop with the ‘80s nostalgia – and more specifically, the Amblin nostalgia?

Could have been a fun Jurassic alternative. Instead, it is so beholden to the films of Spielberg that it sabotages its own originality.

I saw this poster for a new movie starring John Travolta that also opens this weekend.
The movie is credited to a director named Ives - which is actually the nom de plume of Randall Emmett, a low-budget movie producer. Per Wikipedia, Emmett pumps out movies - having produced over a hundred in 20 years. He’s famous for developing “Geezer teaser” - where he cast older famous male actors ("geezers") past their prime and featuring them prominently in advertising material ("teasers"). (John Travolta, age 72, fits that description!)
Travolta, by the way, regularly appears cue-ball-bald alternating with a full head of (purchased) hair. Recently, he went from bald to a weird oldish version of Danny Zuko. (Does Travolta have a horrible portrait of himself handing in a locked room of his attic?)
With the popularity of super hero comic book movie, I tried to image what a Legion of Super Heroes might look like. I’ve done several different versions of the team members. More tomorrow!

Tom Holland admits in an interview that “”some” of his movies are “shit”. But he doesn’t say how fans can get refunds for buying tickets to see them.
Tom Holland has wasted his talent at the shallow end of the acting pool. While is contemporaries have Oscar nominations, he competes for MTV awards.
His non MCU movies have mostly flopped at the box office. And his streaming movie have Rotten RT scores.
