Clip from day 1 of the Joe Meyer clinic. I learned A LOT. I need to get better at not going before the movement over jumps. Iām successful at this over some of the jumps when I remember, others Iām not. Leaning forward is kind of my automatic response when Iām not sure of sheās gonna jump something or not, which is completely the opposite of what youāre supposed to do lol. I need to learn to sit tall in the canter instead of leaning forward and I gotta apply more leg/be more aggressive when needed. Joe also said widening your hands before a spooky jump helps you channel them towards it, something I did not know but definitely helped. We had quite a few refusals in the beginning, and some of them definitely could have been prevented had I been correct in my aids/position and kept contact. Not gonna lie, I felt a serious lack of confidence in myself by the time we finished, but Joe apparently said to my trainer that Leda and I are perfect for each other! He also said she was a great little jumper. The next day was course and xc work, and she must have been tired from the previous day because after the warmup jumps, she began refusing when we started doing stadium jump courses. Joe got on her (she refused a couple times even with an Olympic rider on her!) and worked her super hard so when I got on she was great and very happy to see me lol. So glad I know what I need to work on more, we have our first xc schooling show this weekend and Iām not super worried because she unexpectedly went over the xc jumps far more easily than the stadium jumps š she worked very hard so she got the day off today. Will probably do some light flat work tomorrow just working on my position and keeping her slow and at an even pace. All in all, very happy with this experience.
so that happened !!
so, some thoughts on today (under a cut bc i know most of yāall donāt want to hear it lol)
- so the horseās name was Royal. she was some kinda sporthorse thing, about 7 years old, running training level eventing, super kind and easygoing. Joe had apparently only had her for a couple of days but heād known her for a long time. she definitely had some forward in her but was very sensitive and very obedient when you got it right. very enjoyable mare, iād definitely ride her again if i got the chance!!
- spent most of the lesson on the flat - Joe was really harping on my pace and position, exactly what i needed. lots of commentary on keeping my seat quiet, my hands soft, and my lower leg still, and how to do so.
- the jump work we did was really focused on keeping me from gunning the horse to the bottom of the fence, especially focusing on my turns and all. admittedly i got anxious once or twice thinking the mare was going to run with me when i lost my balance, but she was very forgiving.
- he definitely prioritized pace over headcarriage, which i think i needed a little reality check in regards to. duly noted.
- i think i really needed to just feel what itās supposed to feel like?? like i havenāt ever gotten it right with Jazz because i canāt quite recall whatās supposed to happen. really enlightening.
- i think i really needed to ride a more forward, larger horse like that and realize i wasnāt going to die lol. i think thatās been a subconscious fear for a little too long now.
- Joe and his grooms were all so sweet and encouraging - not an ounce of snobbishness in any of them. theyāre really great people, i felt so good about everything when i left.
- at least mentally. physically, i died. iāve never ridden that hard in my life. Joe was like ālet Royal be doneā and i was internally like āman let me be done lmao.ā time 2 start working out for real. i was so torn between wanting to soak up every second of saddle time and realizing how horrifically out of shape i am
- i felt like my elbows were a lot more bent than they were. yikes. gonna have to really work on that.
anyhow. i think the videos are gonna be more useful for me than the photos, but there are still some nice ones iāll put up soon. good times!

The deal ultimately fell through because of weak advertising revenue at the time, said people familiar with the matter.
Alex Sherman and Anousha Sakoui at Bloomberg:Ā
The National Enquirerās ties to President Donald Trump and his family are so close that his son-in-law Jared Kushner almost bought it three years ago.
What began as talk show criticisms of the president and erupted into a Twitter war between Trump and two TV hosts escalated Friday to include a claim that White House officials offered to help spike a negative story about them in the tabloid. All MSNBCās Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski would have to do is apologize to the president.
Kushner, according to New York Magazine and other publications citing unidentified sources, was one of those White House messengers. Kushnerās relationship with the Enquirer dates back to his pre-election career as a real estate developer and publisher of the New York Observer, then a weekly newspaper.
Three years ago, Kushner and his brother-in-law, Joe Meyer, tried with Enquirer publisher David Pecker to buy the tabloidās owner, American Media Inc., people familiar with that bid said. The deal ultimately fell through because of weak advertising revenue at the time, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the matter was private.
During last yearās campaign, the Enquirer, more typically associated with stories on badly behaving celebrities and reports of extraterrestrials, endorsed Trump and headlined alleged scandals in attacks on his opponents. Trumpās praise for the Enquirer -- saying at one point that it deserved journalismās Pulitzer Prize -- was frequent and he welcomed Peckerās support.

Trump has a history with the Enquirer. Heās written first-person essays for the outlet, which held its 90th birthday party at his SoHo hotel in New York.
During the 2016 campaign, Trump trumpeted the Enquirerās claim that the father of one of his political rivals, Senator Ted Cruz, had been photographed with John F. Kennedy assassin Lee Harvey Oswald -- a claim Cruz denied and the nonpartisan fact-checker PolitiFact rated a āpants on fireā inaccuracy.
Guess who tried to buy the National Enquirer, a pro-Trump garbage rag? Jared Kushner.
