I met a new fruit this weekend at my friend’s house in Costa Rica! The jocote, or “hog plum” in English according to Wikipedia, is in the mango family and even looks like a small mango, but the peel is somewhat edible. The flavor is somewhere between sour, sweet, and that floralness so characteristic of many tropical fruit.
You want them to be brightly colored or else they’re not ready, at least according to my friend.
