You are just my favorite salt mine right now. Not being sarcastic, I legitimately feel this gleeful sense of pessimism the more we hear remake news. It's like some part of my brain thinks if I stubbornly hate everything it'll be almost impossible to actually meet those incredibly low expectations and then I'll ultimately be happier with the finish product even if the game is just mediocre.
Itâs actually really hard and goes beyond just pessimism for me. Itâs so difficult feeling like the only person looking at this and not feeling in the least excited. The reveal trailer was more promising than this because it at least demonstrated this sense of thought, this attention to pacing, imagery and cinematography. This is an action game sizzle reel that would mean nothing if you didnât recognize all the characters?
And I mean⌠Maybe thatâs okay for the bombing mission or maybe thatâs okay right now but I fear that Rule of Cool is gonna be demonstrative of the entire game? I think itâs why Barretâs sunglasses at night stick out so much to me, itâs emblematic of the whole thing. âWhy is he wearing sunglasses?â âLooks coolerâ âo okayâ
Maybe things will be better when we get some details. I want to believe. I want to meet this thing in the middle, and be able to say that even if it isnât the same game or even if it falls down or even if itâs only being made for mad cash money, that enough people worked on this who found core-shaking truth in the original and through their care some of that shines through. It doesnât all have to be good for it to not be a matter of going through the motions.
But so far, Iâm just seeing a lot of Standard 2015 Video Game Elements With Familiar Faces, and I wouldnât care if I didnât already care so deeply.
