FINALLY. I bet you don't remember ages back (in March to be precise) when I said that I would upload some illustrations by a Barbadian artist called Jill Walker did you?
It seems a bit silly to even bother at this stage but let's not forget that I'm being graded on this. In all honesty I really should have attempted to do this months ago but I got caught up in trying to film (and re-filming even!) and just finishing this whole film that I completely forgot.
This is way back when I was starting to think about the design of the memory people. Due to the amazing phone camera quality of the images you might just be able to make out that all the figures are painted black while the rest of the image is in colour. I just liked the idea of the people all being the same, slightly unreal entities with hints of personality coming through in their detailing. It was also just another touch from home that I could squeeze into my film.
The reason why I didn't think to go down this road was because a lot of my film is just blocks of colour really. I didn't want to detract from that by having people with random highlighted articles of clothing walking through my film! I did like the first test that I did with the lady and her cream apron but in the end I am quite happy with the result that I got from what I went with. There's also a greater sense of mystery and visual interest involved when you have just a person's silhouette. I'll scour and see if I can find the scans from the art book that I was meant to upload around this time as well. Fingers crossed!
