"Why the hell do I need to go to–” Snatching up the paper Kiara’d shoved at her, she screeches, “Cleo’s? This isn’t even in Kildare!”
“They've been operating forever and will train you pro bono, so–”
“So they owe you then?” Sarah accuses. “Willing to take some dead weight off your hands to call it even, is that it?”
“I’m trying to help you,” Kiara rages, the onion victimized by her rapid fire blade.
“No one asked for your help!” No one helped Sarah when she was stuck in that stall; no one saved her from those blinding, glittery stage lights. She’d smiled and starved and saved herself all on her own.
There was a time she’d felt horrible, even responsible, for the rift between her and Kiara. Wondered why she tried so hard at everything except this one thing. But now, crumpling up Cleo’s address in her hand, she wonders if Kiara is banking on her not trying at all.
