Can I drink on-campus?
Sort of. Federal and Maryland law prohibit the purchase and/or consumption of alcohol by anyone under the age of 21. All RAs are legally obligated to uphold this law. Possession or consumption of alcoholic beverages in the AMRs, Buildings A & B, Wolman, McCoy, Homewood, Rogers House, or Bradford by any student under 21 years of age is prohibited. However, if you are 21+ and live in the residence halls, you are permitted to drink in your own dorm room, but NOT in common areas and NOT with underage residents present. No beer kegs, funnels, shot glasses, flasks, or any alcohol paraphernalia are permitted in residence halls, including empty decorative alcohol beverage bottles. Drinking and carrying open containers in outdoor areas, including the Beach (the grassy area between MSE Library and N. Charles St.). Violation of these policies can result in consequences as severe as suspension but typically results in a “write-up” that is documented by the Office of Housing and Dining. Consecutive write-ups can lead to meetings with the administration, disciplinary probation, etc.
