One Joe-Jake parallel that I have not seen discussed much is that both men saw her as childish. I think Joe did not see her as a serious artist doing important work, which is how he sees himself. There was also a legitimate imbalance at the start of the relationship where she needed a lot of taking care of for 2016 reasons which wasn't bad until it calcified into Joe being the perma-expert in mental health. I could say more about the paternalism of it all and how she flips that on its head in father figure but I think you get the idea.
i know exactly what you mean. @wavesoutbeingtossed and i have in-depth conversations about this that aren't quite fit for the dash, but you're definitely hitting on why the manuscript is relevant on tortured poets and why it closes not just that album but a chapter that started with red. jake saw her as childish because she was a child (specifically in relation to how much older he was), although still somehow adult enough in his eyes to be in such a complicated, mentally exhaustive adult relationship with a man of his age, and joe saw her as childish because, like you said, he considered himself a more serious artist. closing one wound allowed her to close them both. both men denied taylor's agency in different ways to exert power and control over her

Guys I know Homelander is the bad guy, but it's not my fault he's so hot that he could grip onto my neck and press me against the wall, and when I utter a small "Oh, God" by instinct, he leans in close to my face and whispers, "No, no God...the only man in the sky...is me...now say it. Say I'm the only man in the sky..." and I'd be forced to cough out the phrase as he notices I'm blushing and clearly turned on, and all he gives is an evil smile with his two sharp teeth showing and then stuff happens that I should include in a dirty fanfic sometime or something.
