Was able to see two of my fave comedians/podcast people this weekend, Mr. Tompkins and Mr. Jackson. A delightful and hilarious evening was had. #jflnorthwest #paulftompkins #marcevanjackson #justforlaughs #Vancouver (at The Vogue Theatre) https://www.instagram.com/p/BuFilhIB5fK/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1n0p6glwe1jf2
Like a modern-day Don Rickles, Jim Norton can get away with saying all of the things the rest of us can not. Even better than just getting away with openly talking about the most taboo aspects of our culture, Norton manages to continually fill rooms and venues to capacity with people in stitches along for Nortonâs weird ride. Friday night at the Vogue Theatre marked not only the first Jim Norton performance in our city but also the comicâs first JFL NorthWest appearance.

Canadian Comedy Award-nominated duo Hip.Bang! returns to JFL Northwest in 2018 with an improv show that is the medical equivalent of eating hot fire, with special guests Nasty Women and Vancouver TheatreSports. Tom and Devinâs playful, absurd improv has delighted audiences worldwide (Just For Laughs, Comedy Central, The Irrelevant Show) and will please you deeply. Laughs guaranteed. Hip.Bang!âs previous work has had some fancy attention. They were nominated for the Canadian Comedy Award for Best Improv Group and have toured all over the world performing duo improv sets that have been described as âhilarious,â âworld-classâ and âdisappointing.â Tom and Devin are both cast members at Vancouver TheatreSports League and are thrilled to be presenting this show at the beautiful Improv Centre on Granville Island. VANCOUVER THEATRESPORTS Vancouver TheatreSports (VTSL) brand of improvisation is a highly theatrical fusion of the dramatic elements coupled with the enthusiasm and edge-of-your-seat excitement of professional sport. Voted Vancouverâs #1 Improv Comedy Company (2017 & 2016 âBest of Vancouver Awardsâ), Vancouver TheatreSports⢠is a well-respected international leader in the improvisation art form - entertaining more than 60,000 people per year through 12 shows a week, 52 weeks a year at its own theatre, The Improv Centre, located on Granville Island. NASTY WOMEN Nasty Women is an improv and sketch group consisting of some of Vancouverâs top comedians. Theyâre performed at the Vancouver International Improv Festival, the Del Close Improve Marathon in New York and at Bellinghamâs Upfront Theatre and put on a monthly sketch and improv show at the Biltmore Cabaret. Wherever they take the stage, their unique voices blend together effortlessly to deliver a fun, fresh show that will leave you feeling fired up and a little bit more nasty.

JFL Northwest feat. Tom Segura
GRAPHITE, PHOTOGRAPHY AND PHOTOSHOP
I designed and illustrated the cover of this month's BC Edition of BeatRoute Magazine. It was such a relief to pull it off, as this assignment was very outside of my comfort zone and I was stressed out almost the entire time lol.
Tom Segura is one of the headlining comedians at the comedy festival JFL Northwest, happening in Vancouver this month. He has two specials on Netflix you guys should check out -- Mostly Stories and Completely Normal. This is one hilarious dude.
Here's a bit of a rationale for my direction. I read in an interview that Tom is an Average Joe in terms of appearance and cadence of speech, and comes off like a sane individual who sees the world on the edge of insanity. Since the "world" of JFL Northwest are the various venues of the shows, I have some of the buildings sketched around Tom's head and the two comedy mascots incorporated in like a mini King Kong and Godzilla. Â I wanted to try to incorporate the paint splotches in the existing JFL branding to be like little explosions among the buildings so that it looked like the mascots (ie. the comedy) were "taking over" or "blowing up" the venues, and overall representing the "world on the edge of insanity" idea.
I really loved this post from @jflnorthwest it had the caption "Just a reminder to all the hecklers out there" I despise hecklers and also how badass is the #jflnorthwest logo? Does anyone know it's name? #hecklersgohome #jflnorthwest #repost #comedyblogger #vancitycomedy #jfl #vitorshappyhour #abigglassofshutthehellup #youngemodernlaughs
