rouxinois cant really understand the concept of "future" like twenty days from now, twenty years from now. they can plan for like tomorrow or a bit after tomorrow but anything more than that is too much for them. so i think when jed went missing there was no way kallichore would ever be able to move on. we know we one day will die and we know eventually time passes and you move on but i think for her every day would be a day without jed and this will go on forever. kinda despairing. she had no choice but to slay a dragon like a knight, but the dragon she found/found her was really young. suddenly it was so small. it told her it had been born not long ago and it was scared it was going to die soon, dragons only live for a month and there was still so many things it didn't understand and so many things it wanted to see. they laid together a little awkwardly because there was nothing they could do. kallichore never really knew death because she never saw jeds body and animals are scared of pain, not death. they don't know that. but when she coiled up a little to shield the dragon she understood deep deep inside her animal brain that death meant that one day she would cease to exist and there would be nothing.
Jed's Summary
Since I forgot to post this thing even if I'm currently doing Saunders's run, here you go:
Jed Harringdale is the spoiled, pampered, "Mommy's Boy"-type son of a wealthy widow, who indulges himself with vices, hanging out with women, and showing off. Due to his vices, he ends up being sickly.
Jed attended high school at a public school in Franklin but went on to attend his final year in prep school. He'd eventually make it to college at Harvard, but would rather skip school for fun, games, and adventure with his pals.
One day, he drags along his friends to a local theme park, Whoopie-Land, but he manages to get away by making out with one of his girlfriends, Gwen Murphy, causing her to go pregnant. Gwen wants him to marry her ASAP, but Mrs. Harringdale would rather see that her son shouldn't settle down with her.
As soon as Gwen and Jed's baby is born, the child is given away to the Joralemon family for adoption, while their poor, hapless young father returns back to school. At school, Jed still continues more of his vices that he gets kicked out, but his mother doesn't mind, whether he's educated or not and she'd accept him no matter what.
One day, Mrs. Harringdale decides to put up a party to help her son choose a partner that he could settle down with, since he's prone from jumping from one partner to the next. This is when he meets fellow rich kid Carol Lane, a pretty young lady from NYC who is quite the perky, sociable type who vacations in Franklin. Jed immediately falls in love with her but grows jaded and bitter due to her personality and realizes that men and women lead different lives respectively.
Jed and Carol give out a talk about their feelings and past relationships, but a year later he ditches her for Helen Rogers. Unlike Carol, who is very wealthy, she's a typical middle-class woman that Mrs. Harringdale disapproves of, in contrast to Carol. Jed and Helen want to marry each other, with Jed wanting to go on with the marriage STAT, although Helen's idea is to take it easy, but this idea of them marrying is enough to make Mrs. Harringdale's blood boil. The doctors warn her if she were to go on with more fits of rage, she'd die.
Helen gives Jed two options: marriage or a breakup. Jed decides it's better for him to take care of his mother than marry Helen, so as a result, he proves himself to be a good son to his mother, but a bad romantic partner to other women.
