Day 8 - multiples (finally did a kinktober list prompt!)
This is my favorite poly ship of all time, they would balance each other so nicely!
Tbh this one turned out better than expectedâŚ. Iâm a little shocked
Berujean Week Day 4 - Falling
remember the first berujean week thatâs almost exactly an entire year ago? the one that happened about 365 days in the past? yeah well, iâm finally posting something for the last prompt i had to do. this has actually been in my drafts for about a year as well, but itâs very.. different from what i normally do so i was very unsure about it. however, the berujean tag has been way too inactive lately so i decided to say what the heck and just post it. enjoy, i guess
You are lying on the bed, long limbs curled up, your face half hidden in the pillow youâre holding. Sometimes you can look so small. Iâm always surprised by that.
Your eyes are shut, but I know youâre awake because you never lie this still when youâre asleep. Â
âJean,â you mumble, and I hum in response, tracing my fingers along your spine. You shuffle a bit, trying to get rid of the tickling feeling.
âDo you ever think about-,â you start, but then you fall quiet again. Itâs how I know youâre about to say something personal. You always get insecure when you talk about personal things.
I drop my hand on the bed and fold my legs, waiting for you to regain your courage. It doesnât take you very long anymore. Weâve been together like this for a while now.
âDo you ever think about birds?â You finally ask, and this is not at all what I expected you to say.
âWhat?â I say, and you turn your head further into the pillow. Your neck is red, so I know youâre blushing anyway.
I let out my breath through my nose, unfold my legs so I can lie in front of you on the bed. Itâs a little awkward, but it fits. Sort of.
âBertl,â I mutter when you keep hiding. âWhat do you mean?â
I manage to unclasp your hand from the pillow, and I play with your fingers for a while. Theyâre long and slender, like everything about you. It makes it easy to forget how strong you are.
âItâs silly,â you finally speak, and carefully peek at me from under your eyelashes.
âIâm sure it isnât,â I respond, and lace my fingers through yours. I watch as you bite your lip, knowing I wonât have to wait long until youâll speak again.
âI just. Sometimes I think about how different it must be,â you whisper, squeezing my fingers but not looking at me. âHaving wings,â you add. âWe can climb trees or stand on top of buildings, but itâs different. You can always fall down.â
I frown, not sure what youâre trying to say.
âBirds never worry about falling.â
Itâs quiet for a long time, because Iâm not sure what to say to you, what you expect me to answer. You turn your head back into the pillow, looking as if you want to crawl into the mattress and not come back. I squeeze your hand when you try to pull it back from me. Iâm hoping you understand Iâm quiet because Iâm trying to think about my words before speaking - something that has never really been my strong suit.
âDoes that mean you worry a lot about falling?â I eventually settle on asking. Itâs quiet again, until you turn on your side (Iâm glad you finally look at me again, youâre so insecure sometimes). âMaybe,â you mutter in response. I want to fold my body around you, make you feel a little more safe. I donât.
âWeâre so fragile,â you whisper, looking at me. I can see the worry in your eyes, in the wrinkles on your forehead. Iâm not sure what suddenly caused you to think about this , or if itâs something youâve been thinking about for a while but were too afraid to voice until now.
âArmin told me birds have hollow bones,â I tell you, rubbing my thumb across the back of your hand. âSo they can stay in the air.â
I crawl over the mattress until Iâm next to you again, and weâre lying face to face.
âWeâre not that fragile,â I insist, bumping my shoulder against your chest. It probably isnât enough to make you forget whatever has you worried like this, but you seem to relax and show me a small smile, and thatâs enough for now.
Stargazing
berujean week has officially begun and what better way to start it than with some lowkey angst! this is unbetaâed and barely proofread because i have v little time today oops, but i hope you guysâll enjoy anyway!
The sky is dark, the stars covered by a thick veil of black smoke, the air filled with harsh sobs and shaking breath. Itâs the night where Jean learns, for the first time, that there is nothing quite as strong as the smell of burning corpses. The fact that some of the bodies have lain in the sun for an entire day before being piled up probably doesnât make it any better. The smell clogs up his nose, makes it impossible to think about anything else. Itâs so thick he can almost feel it pressing against his skin, though that might be the heat of the fire as well.
Thereâs still some ash clinging to his hands, but he doesnât want to wipe it against his trousers. It seems a little disrespectful. So he leaves it be, and wonders if this night will be something thatâs going to stay with him forever, or if it will eventually just be one of many bad memories. After all, heâs sure that this wonât be the last time he will lose a friend. Itâs common knowledge that on most missions the Survey Corpse returns to the walls more dead than alive. He has seen the haunted looks on their faces every time they come back. Staring at the bonfire, he canât help but wonder if his decision to join them is suicide.
The heat of the fire on his skin suddenly feels like too much, the smell making it a little too hard to breathe, so he turns around and starts walking. Itâs not very difficult to slip away; everyone is too caught up in their own grief to wonder where a skinny 15 year old might be going. He keeps his eyes cast downward, watching as the brown earth beneath his feet slowly turns into green grass covered in dew. He thinks he can still hear the crackling of the fire, but he doesnât know for certain if itâs not just in his head. The fire is far behind him now, and when he looks up he can see the night sky again.
He jolts a little when he hears someoneâs heavy breathing, realising heâs not alone here. He looks around, confused, until he spots Bertholdt lying on the ground a few metres away from him. Even though he doesnât give any sign that heâs heard Jean, he knows he must have; itâs so quiet around here that Jeanâs footsteps seem very loud.
He hesitates only for a moment, before he slowly makes his way toward him. He looks down again, noticing the tips of his boots are wet by now. Bertl looks up at him, his face a mixture of sorrow and something else.
âHey, Jean,â he says after a beat of silence.
Jean gestures to the ground next to him. âCan I join you?â he asks.
âThe grass is wet,â Bertl warns him, but Jean is already kneeling down, stretching out his body next to Bertholdt. Bertl was right about the grass, and he can feel the dampness seeping into his clothes. He doesnât mind, though. Itâs almost nice after having stood in front of the fire for so long.
Theyâre both silent for a while, and Jean wants to ask him why heâs here, why he was lying on the ground, but he isnât sure how to do that. The silence feels too heavy to lift on his own.
Heâs still trying to figure out what to say when Bertl breaks the silence himself.
âIâm sorry,â is what he says, and Jean is so surprised by those words that he turns his head to the side so he can look at him. Bertholdt is still staring at the sky, a small frown pulling his eyebrows together.
âWhy?â Jean asks, scanning Bertlâs face. Bertholdt wets his lips a little, but he doesnât look at Jean when he speaks.
âI know you cared for him.â
Jean turns his head away again, staring at the stars visible through wisps of black smoke. His chest feels heavy.
âI did,â he answers, because he isnât sure what else heâs supposed to say. He doesnât know why Bertl brings it up either. They are silent again, and it doesnât feel like a comfortable one like it normally does between them. Jean is desperate to change the subject, and because his thoughts are on Marco no matter what, the only thing he can come up with is, âyou can see Orion from here.â
He can hear Bertl turning his head towards him, but he doesnât look. Instead he points his finger to the sky, drawing a line between the three stars shining next to each other.
âThat part is supposed to be the belt,â he explains. âItâs an easy one to spot, because the four stars around it form a rectangle.â
Just when Jean thinks he isnât listening, Bertl speaks up.
âI think I can see it.â
Jean can feel a weak smile tugging at the corners of his mouth, and he points out another constellation. He remembers the nights, very long ago, where he would do this with his mom. Itâs why he knows so many of them; she always used to take him outside in the middle of the night to tell stories about fallen heroes and beautiful women.
He also remembers nights where heâd look for the same constellations on the skin of Marcoâs back, painting freckles together with the tip of his finger. This is different, of course, because even from here they can still smell the burning, can still see some of the smoke covering up the stars above them.
But Bertl is lying next to him either way, and when Jean shifts on the grass and their shoulders touch, neither of them moves away. Itâs different, but it also feels like the start of something. For the first time since this afternoon, Jean feels like maybe he can learn to live with the memories of what happened today.

The Kirschtein Poutâ˘
Jean likes to use what Bertl has dubbed âThe Kirschtein Poutâ˘â whenever he wants something. Heâs too lazy to get up to make himself some cocoa? Out comes the pout and Bertl canât help but do whatever he asks. He wants to watch his favorite movie even though theyâve watched it every night that week? Out comes the pout and Bertl reluctantly gets up to put the movie in.
Sometimes Jean uses the pout on other people to get him and Bertl a good table at a restaurant or better seats at the movies but Bertl gets a little jealous sometimes because âyour cute pout is only for me, Jean.â They work out a compromise, though; Jean uses the pout to get them good seats while Bertl gets to kiss his pouty lips when they get home.
