TEENAGE MELODRAMA.

high school parties.  cheap beer.  slashed tires.  stumbling over tree branches.  realizing no one in the world will notice if you die.  makeup that’s gone to waste.  trying to be loving when you know the world won’t respond in kind.  the innocent bystander.  making a promise to a friend.  the lights going down at the end of the show.  anxiety attacks.  silent tears.

JUST ANOTHER BRANCH.

champagne in sparkling classes.  your mother’s lipstick, smeared across your face.  spending money on a whim.  impulse hook-ups.  fake ids.  shoplifting.  chopping your hair off.  music blasting so loudly you can’t hear yourself think.  smirnoff.  trying, but knowing it isn’t going to make a difference.  old flames.  discovering who you are.  winged eyeliner.

THRICE SHY.

forging friendships at the end of the world.  a phone that hasn’t been charged in weeks.  medical school.  the quiet acceptance of what’s to come.  kicking and screaming and praying all at once.  taking inventory of supplies and of yourself.  whispering secrets over a bottle of wine.  hugging someone until your chest aches.  disease.  gentle touches.

TROOP 54.

mcdonalds at 2 am.  photographs where you’re smiling for once.  all of your friends tagging you in the same photo.  popcorn.  video game tournaments.  recognizing wildlife without a guide.  bad pick-up lines.  knowing a secret before anyone says anything out loud.  group chats with repetitive memes.  finding peace while surrounded by people.  tents.

WHELM. 

understanding by watching how they shift their weight.  the black death.  the weight of the world rolling off your shoulders.  arguing over stupid things so you can ignore what actually scares you.  dying next to your best friend.  apologies, again and again and again.  forgiveness, but only once.  learning how to breathe.  hanging out with people you hate.
