Mi Ăşltimo trabajo! BIGBAND
Piero Umiliani and Chet Baker – Smog
The long forgotten soundtrack to a hip early 1960s Italian cult movie, with music by Piero Umiliani and the legendary Chet Baker. Helen Merrill’s vocal theme is just outstanding, rarely bettered, the jazz is playful, mysterious and charming. This is just inspired and incredible music (Jazz Messengers).
Duke Ellington and His Orchestra – Masterpieces by Ellington
Masterpieces by Ellington is the first LP album by American pianist, composer, and bandleader Duke Ellington, recorded for the Columbia label in 1950. The AllMusic review by Bruce Eder awarded the album 4½ stars and stated: “For the first time in his recording career, Ellington was able to forego the three-minutes-and-change restrictions in running time of the 78-rpm disc — he and the band rose to the occasion.”
Paul Whiteman And His Band In “King Of Jazz” (1930)
King of Jazz is a 1930 American Pre-Code color film starring Paul Whiteman and his orchestra. The film title was taken from Whiteman’s self-conferred appellation. At the time the film was made, “jazz”, to the general public, meant the jazz-influenced syncopated dance music which was being heard everywhere on phonograph records and through radio broadcasts. In the 1920s Whiteman signed and featured white jazz musicians including Joe Venuti and Eddie Lang (both are seen and heard in the film), Bix Beiderbecke (who had left before filming began), Frank Trumbauer and others. There is a possibility that one of the people appearing in the film was the great-uncle of Kurt Cobain (the late vocalist and guitarist of Nirvana).
