Cougar swatted at Jakeās fingers as he turned the page of his book.
āNow I have to start over,ā Jake complained, grabbing Cougarās beard again. āOne gray fur, two gray furs, three...ā Jake counted as he separated the gray hairs in Cougarās beard.
āDonāt you have things to be doing?ā Cougar asked, glancing at Jakeās own graying goatee. Jake was blond enough that they were harder to pick out, but even Jakeās seemingly endless youthfulness couldnāt escape the march of time.
āIāll do it later. Iām busy with something very important,ā Jake told him, counting out three more hairs.
āI see,ā Cougar said, turning another page and swatting at Jakeās fingers again.
āDammit Cougs!ā Jake complained.
āWhat?ā Cougar asked innocently, grabbing Jakeās fingers and kissing the tips.
āDonāt try to sweet talk me, Cougar. Iām doing the Lordās work,ā Jake said, tugging Cougarās beard.
Cougar raised an eyebrow then reached for Jakeās dyed head of hair. Ā āI think I seeāā
āHold your lying tongue,ā Jake cried, trying to fight off Cougarās hands, but Cougar pulled him close, so he had nowhere to go.Ā āStop that!ā
Cougar grinned, foiling Jakeās attempts to throw him off and sending the swing they sat on back and forth violently.
āDad, what are you doing?ā their daughter, Carrie, asked from the bottom step of the porch. She lived down the street, probably afraid her fathers would get into trouble without her vigilance. Ā
āCarrie, tell your father I donāt have gray hairs,ā Jake told her.
āPapĆ”, be nice to dad. Ā You know heās sensitive bout his old age,ā Carrie said, giving them both pointed looks.
āIām not old!ā Jake shouted.
āShut up, Jake. Everyone knows youāre old.ā Their neighbor shouted over the fence. Ā Jake shot a dirty look at the hedge hiding the man from sight.
āYou look distinguished,ā Carrie placated. Ā
Jake frowned, but Cougar kissed it away.
āSeriously, will you two ever outgrow PDAs?ā Carrie asked, exasperated. Sheād lived through a youth full of horribly timed parental PDAs.
āWhy should I stop kissing your father? Heās still hot,ā Jake asked her.
āYou two are gross. I just came to see if you wanted to come over for dinner. Jakeyās got some weird science project he wants to show you,ā she said.
āWeāve got bingo at the veteranās hall tonight, but weāll come over to check out the squirtās project before we go,ā Jake told her, leaning against Cougar.
āDad, shooting bottles behind the hall isnāt actually the same as bingo,ā Carrie told him.
āSure it is. When Cougar hits five in a row, I shout bingo and he wins a prize,ā Jake told her, grinning from ear to ear.
Carrie rolled her eyes.Ā āIāll see you two later. Try not to shoot Uncle Clay this week,ā she said.
āThat was an unfortunate accident because I wasnāt wearing my glasses,ā Jake told her retreating back. Ā Cougar just snorted at him and tugged on his hair.

It was seriously the first thing my eyes went to when I opened the document, and I was so horrified then I laughed when I saw the doc title. Ā I really need to stop writing completely different kinds of fics simultaneously. Ā
Dress sort of dressy casual? Like slacks with a nice blouse or a nice summer dress thatās like at most two colors. Like keep it simple and comfy but make it look like you tried? (idk what you have in your closet but Iām sure you have something in there that can work for you :] )

Actually, sundress. Those things are A+ for Eastern Washington heat, and have been my go to for a week.
Hmmmmm well I donāt usually wear a lot of dresses or skirts 1) because I need pockets and 2) because the ones with pockets are ugly and also 3) everyone always acts so goddamn surprised and I prefer to wear things with legs on them lmao But I do like sundresses generally, as long as the waist is cinched.
Honestly I was thinking like, where can I find some linen stuff. Like some nice linen shorts and a thin blouse or button-down shirt.... Still need shoes tho lol all I have are sneakers, boots, and sandals that I canāt wear without pain.
AND I have just been informed that the wedding IS fancy after all and theyāre wearing tuxedos and the colors are āblack and icy blue.ā Oh boy. Luckily I of course donāt need to look as fancy as my mom or my uncles but still a little bit. I might be able to find some lightweight slacks or something. If my spectators were tan and cream instead of stark b&w theyād be easier to match with like a pastel outfit.

Question: (not sure if you have answered this before) what is happening with the Cougar shifter fic? (Just curious.)
I havenāt answered this before, I donāt think. Ā It will be finished. Ā It got moved to the back burner when I started writing Salvation Between Bookends only because I have five fics that I got to 20k on then stopped to write something else then didnāt finish (Iāll one day finish them too I swear). Ā So, I promised myself Iād finish writing this one if it killed me. Ā This weekend, I took a break from finishing the last chapter just to clear my head, but tomorrow, Iām hoping to get it done or close to it.
Then I will be returning to finish the shifter Cougar fic. Ā So thatās a priority behind the current fic, and I will finish it and finish posting it all within the next month. My problem is that I sit down to write a ficlet just to clear my head, then it turns into another long fic. Ā Like todayās fic that was going to be 1k and turned into almost 7k.
