As all three of them grew up, Jay gradually becomes closer friends with Kai and drifted away from Cole.
I actually thought about this while watching the show and as the show progresses there are a lot less ‘bruise moments’ but if you consider Kai and Jay’s friendship to revolve around relentless teasing (as in the closer they are the harder they bully each other) then Kai and Jay must be pretty close.
Plus Jay never told Cole that he was going to propose to Nya!!!! Cole found out after he asked ‘what are you guys talking about’ and Kai was actually the one to tell him. Which makes me think that Jay doesn’t confide in Cole as much as he used to.
Also the fact that Kai goes on picnics with Jay and Nya doesn’t help the case
