Ah, the little Blue Jay Prince. Left on the doorstep of a cobbler couple when he was a baby, Jay never really wanted the royal legacy he knew was his. Both he and his parent were well aware that his biological mother was the previous Cinderella, but, at Jay’s insistence, he and his parents worked hard to cover it up, presenting Jay himself as just having the same, unimportant, generic legacy as Ed and Edna. To their credit, the lie did work… until high school. By means Jay still hasn’t quite puzzled out, the headmaster, Trustable, uncovered the truth and quite publicly exposed Jay’s lies. Luckily the boy had his friends as support, but, ever since school staff have insisted he look and act the part of a royal more than he was previously (which is to say- he wasn’t at all).

Though, the unwanted attention and royal duties are only half the reason Jay doesn’t want his story. The other half being his supposed destined prince, one Chad Amber (not to be confused with his cousin, Chen). Chad is brash, disrespectful of boundaries, and overall what people would generally describe as a “massive douchebag”. Jay would rather take Lloyd’s place as the Evil Fairy than spend one more day betrothed to that creep. Even in his preview on Legacy Day, Jay saw nothing but misery for him in the end, trapped in a cage by his “Prince”.

And not a metaphorical cage, mind you. You see, due to the… nature of Jay’s birth and the fact his very existence is against just about every fairytale rule there is (and not even Cliff Gordon’s first offense in this matter, nor his last), and due to the fact Jay specifically is tied to a very well known story, Cliff got… let’s just say- creative with his “solution” on how to keep the kid from spilling about his parentage. Cliff just so happened to know a dark magic sorcerer by the name of Clouse who, in exchange for some favors to him and his husband, agreed to curse the baby Jay to slowly transform into an actual blue jay throughout the day, typically completing around 9pm and resetting itself at midnight. Cliff would’ve just asked the kid be a bird period, but the midnight magic of Jay’s story couldn’t be avoided, so compromises had to be made.

With all that said it’d be easy to make the assumption Jay’s life just sucks on the whole, but, despite all odds against him, it doesn’t. He’s found way to manage his curse, and has a wonderful group of friends (many of which with their own story-breaking secrets) to fall back on. Jay’s cardigan is one of the many ways his friends have aided in keeping his curse hidden, since it’s easier to cover up his feathers with later in the day. Not to mention, getting your unwanted suitor to back off is much easier when you have the Big Bad Wolf and Pied Piper as your best friends (though that latter one may be slightly more than a friendship-).

Overall, Jay’s been doing just fine for himself. He’s managing his curse, Nya finally got off her suspension after an… incident at Legacy Day, and everything’s been just fine! He’s even made two new friends as of late! Two friends who might’ve even found him a loophole to his story and a way to get him out of his destined marriage-
