Carl Perkins, performing âForever Yoursâ on Tex Ritterâs âRanch Party,â c. 1957.
"My life is in your hands, please darling, understand. âCause Iâm sure, Iâll always be, forever yours..."
With his band, off camera: His younger brother Clayton on bass, older brother Jay on rhythm guitar, and over his shoulder, W.S. âFlukeâ Holland on drums.
i love jupiter rising but i do have to admit that plotwise it doesnt line up with orbiting jupiter in some details. like what do you mean maddies implied to be neglectful and MIA in the household 24/7 father had the time to have brunch with jay perkins, the son of the family he disdained so much, every weekend
i need someone to get on my level: orbiting jupiter/jupiter rising jay & jack as we hug now by sydney rose
Carl Perkinsâ older brother Jay Perkins, who played rhythm guitar in his band, "The Perkins Brothers Band," alongside their younger brother Clayton who played an upright bass, and their drummer who wasnât related to them, but was their friend, W.S. âFlukeâ Holland.Â
This still is from the âGlad All Overâ clip from the 1957 film "Jamboree," just a year later, Jay was diagnosed with a malignant tumor of the brain, on the morning of October 20th, 1958, he passed away in a hospital bed, holding Carlâs hand, he was twenty-eight.Â

An unlikely pair...
(I had a hard time gathering my thoughts today, but I wanted to get this out)
Imagine, if you will -- Carlâs older brother Jay and Elvis trying to work together to survive an apocalyptic event. Itâs something that Iâve wanted to write for a while. Itâs been on my mind since I noticed how in Carlâs stories of Jay, he doesnât seem to like Elvis that much. Jay called him a âsissy,â didnât like that he wore pink, had âfiled fingernails,â said heâd get killed by a bunch of red dogs, and he thought Elvis must have thought himself as being âpretty.â I think he said these things because, like Carl, Jay too was insecure, saying stuff about Elvis was his way of venting that, and Elvis seemed to have this effect on guys. Also, there was lowkey rivalry at Sun Records, so shooting down Elvis could be his way of building up Carl.
Iâve always wondered if Jay ever talked to Elvis, or just made up his mind that he didnât like him because Elvis didnât seem to share the feelings. As he sent Carl a weeping willow tree, with a dozen paper mache redbirds attached to its limbs, with a card that read, âWith love, Elvis,â for Jayâs funeral. So, even Jay didnât like him, or they didnât get along, maybe they could have if things were different.
I got to thinking, what itâd be like if they spent more time together, though most likely, itâd have to be something catastrophic, that getâs them to be cool with each other. Like an apocalyptic event happens while touring, in 1955, itâd be zombies because I just like zombies scenarios, and they have to learn to work together to survive, meanwhile, they become friends and maybe more? Me and my romantic stories, still, I like to imagine what theyâd do in a story like that, and I pass the thought onto whoever the reader of this is.
Before I go off to bed, what do you think theyâd do in that situation? (Romantic or otherwise)
Interviewed by Ralph Emery, in 1974, Carl talks about how he got the nickname "Little Carly," from his older brother Jay. Stories of him are rare, and this oneâs so cute I wanted to share it.
âMy grandmother used to keep a whole bunch of us little Perkins younginsâ while our folks was picking cotton, thatâs when I was real young, and my older brother Jay - We called my grandmother mammy; Mammy used to always have a big platter of homemade biscuits on the stove at all times, and the kids get to fightinâ or cryinâ, while sheâd give us all a biscuit. - Well, Jay had eaten his biscuit, and he went to mammy and said, âMammy, little Carly wants another biscuit.â He was gettinâ it for his self. "

⢠12 Days of Christmas - 2 of 12 - The Perkins Brothers â˘Â This version of "Everything Stays" reminds me of Carl and his brothers. I gotta admit, though I adore Carl and his brothers, I had a hard time editing this video but I like how it turned out.
"Carl respected Jay and stood up for Clayton, he loved his brothers equally."
