Odyssey au where after blinding his son, Poseidon takes a page out of Apollo's book and curses Odysseus to live up to the name he gave Polyphemus- Nobody.
His men abandon this stranger and he must travel by land and by taking odd jobs to join vessels for short voyages, in order to return home. He is treated as a pathetic beggar, a stranger not worth noting. It still takes him years to arrive home.
And when he does, he is still Nobody. His scar cannot save him, his wife does not know him, even his dog does not treat him as his master. When he slaughters the suitors in a bloody rage, he is treated as any stranger who enters a royal home and slaughters their guests would.
It is only after he is executed, that his name is returned.
