dang. all the boys came to jay-den kraag’s yard this week. probably bc he was having a cultural identity/grief crisis and panic attacks. that was a very sexy thing to do, narratively.

How is Jay-Den the only Klingon in Starfleet Academy and Lura Thok gives the impression that she’s a rare Klingon in the Federation herself? I mean, even in Voyager’s era we’d had Klingon’s and humans mixing more and more together, and we know of at least Belanna and the restraunteur on DS9 living among the Federation. After 800 years, during which Klingons have joined and possibly left the Federation, there have to be tones of biologically Klingon and mixed people Klingon descent living on Federation member worlds, whether or not they all consider themselves culturally Klingon. Guess Trek never really remembers how mixed people or the descendants of immigrants work enough to shatter their essentialist framework, but I’m a bit disappointed. I wanted to see Klingon ballerinas who were raised on Nivar, super intense Klingon counselors, Klingon-Bajoran kids who struggle with both following the Prophets and the ancestral urge to kill one’s gods.
