I am here to tell you about the most bizarre restaurant I’ve ever been in
It’s a small place in a strip in Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii called “Java Jazz & Soup Nutz.”
Right away, you’re greeted with this wonderful chandelier
You quickly realize that’s not the strangest thing here.
The walls are covered in writing and Polaroid photos where there aren’t stylistic portraits of naked women or bizarre artifacts that look like somebody bought out a thrift store’s miscellaneous section.
A television screen cycles through a slideshow of random images ranging from 2012-style memes to wildlife photography to patriotic images and paintings to photos of the restaurant itself.
Things like this creepy jester, chandelier of plushie animal heads inside sunflowers, and cage of naked barbies hang from the ceiling throughout the store
Conflicting political stickers urge people to vote for Ron Paul, assure the patrons that they’re “conservative liberals,” or let you know that Trump is on the menu, among other affiliations.
Skeletons are strewn about, including this torso sitting in the rafters
Yes, that is the old flag of Iran in the bottom.
If you weren’t yet convinced at the sheer amount of random things just sitting out, zoom in anywhere in the following photo:
A cabbage patch doll, a banjo-playing skeleton, a pitcher labeled “stranger things” that’s the bar’s tip jar, a glove and mini football helmet hanging above the bar, yet another b4re-ch3sted (spare me, censors) woman painting. Among other items. It’s like an eye-spy book came to life.
Forgive the blurry photo, but there’s also a lion skin taxidermy wearing a hat and eating a Barbie
And this is just the things I could see from my table!
(The restrooms were surprisingly normal, though the lock worked poorly and I almost got walked in on.)
A sticker on the television monitor read “being weird isn’t enough”, which I took as the store’s motto.
If you get the chance, PLEAZE visit this small place, it’s totally worth the visit
