He will be heading up the Washington Football Team. #TodayInModernHistory 1. Tavis Smiley's $1.2M Mistake A judge ruled media journalist and activist #TavisSmiley pay $1.2m to plaintiffs alleging harrassment and hostile work environment claims. One woman alleged Smiley fired her after repeatedly asking for sex and hearing her continuous refusals. He settled with the woman for $300k. Unfortunately Smiley sued PBS for breach of contract, they countersued and won. During a time where we cannot identify 5 Journalists that own and produce their own news and talk shows, the void caused by Smileys 2 year absence is devastating. Roland Martin and Karen Hunter continue to be the only Black Journalists who broadcasts nationally while owning their shows. They decide their own content unlike every other news and talk show with a Black host. 2. NFL's First Black President The @NFL team formerly named The Washington Redskins hired the first Black (and yougest) President of a team in 38 year old #JasonWright. So the team with one of the most notoriously racist owners in the league hired a Black man. Should we be excited? See this as advancement or tokenism? This would also be a great time to consider #JayZ contribution as the NFL's only Black male owner.
