It’s the Christmas season 🎅🏻🤶🏻🎁🎄❄️⛄️ & what better way to start than by watching some Christmas movies 😊
Tonight I’m watching the 1934 movie “Bright Eyes” starring Shirley Temple, James Dunn & Jane Withers 😊
This is the movie that basically solidified Shirley’s success as a child star 😊 1934 was a big year for Shirley she had her breakout role in “Stand Up & Cheer” her first movie with James (Bright Eyes would be their 4th and final movie they did together) that got her signed to Fox then had her first starring role as Marky in a loan-out to Paramount in “Little Miss Marker” with Adolphe Menjou & Dorothy Dell and starred 2 other big films before this (“Baby Take A Bow” again with James along with Claire Trevor & “Now & Forever” with Carole Lombard & Gary Cooper) Bright Eyes was her first big hit internationally and for all of her achievements that year she was awarded the first ever Juvenile award given to child stars at the Oscars (the award would be given annually for the next 25 years) and she would be no.8 on the top 10 box office draws that year and would reach the top spot for the next 4 years after that 😊
This is also considered to be Jane Withers’ first big role as a child star as well playing the bratty Joy Smythe she would have success of her own not as huge as Shirley’s but still pretty big in films such as Little Miss Nobody & Paddy O’Day 😊
I’ll be watching a Christmas movie every night right up to the big day 😊😊 so stay tuned 😉😉
