Gladys is trying her hand... er, wings, at the Piano. Looks like she needs a little more confidence at it!

From behind the counter at the 24-hour Sunrise Diner, Gladys wiped down the grill, her eyes tracking the stranger who had just walked through the diner door. There was something off about the way he moved, too quiet, completely soaked with rain dripping off his coat. Gladys paused, dish rag in hand, wondering what kind of trouble just rolled into town.

As he was pulling off his hat and rainsoaked coat, she recognized him--it was Curtis Vance. He used to be a local private investigator until he disgraced his name and vanished from the county three years ago. Everyone assumed he was dead, or at least smart enough never to show his face around here again.

He didn't order coffee or anything else. He leaned over the counter, his eyes bloodshot and looking frantic, and before Gladys could even open her mouth to ask where the hell he had been, Curtis shoved a damp, crumbled piece of paper into her hand.

"Dont look out the window right now." He muttered, "and don't look at this until I'm across the street. Someone has been watching this diner all night." Without waiting for a reply, he turned on his heels, pushed open the diner door and vanished into the darkness, heading straight for the neon glow of the Hells Bells Motel.

Gladys waited until the bell above the door stopped dinging. Gladys knew he was not here for nostalgia--the diner was the exact stage where his life blew up three years ago. Heart pounding, she unrolled the damp note under the counter.
