Stop Calling ASOIAF Grimdark, 2020
Finally cracked open Joe Abercrombie’s The Blade Itself, realized I may have made a terrible mistake, googled “hopepunk”, and now I really need people to please justify how in the love of all fucks does A Song of Ice and Fire fit the definition of “grimdark”.
How does this not fit Martin to a T? How come he’s being routinely presented as the opposite of this? Have people actually bothered to read the books, or just skimmed for the Red Wedding or better yet felt content to tear off their noodle to the brave “realism” of the show?
Christ, I really hope it’s the latter because what are we even doing otherweise.
