...“May I have at least keep some of my dignity? Could you please turn around whilst I change” John said quietly. This was the first time he’s talked all day. Too scared and shocked to say anything else.

  The guards nodded and turned their backs whilst he took off his jeans and t-shirt and slipped the orange suit over his vest and boxers. He then gave his scruffy clothes to the man at the desk.

  John was handcuffed again and the guards led him towards the first set of bars he would be seeing here they unlocked and locked it again after they walked through and then walked through the heavy DNA initiated door. One of the guards placed his thumb on the scanner and the door began to unlock. The door took about a minute to completely unlock. This place was heavily secured since most of the people inside were very dangerous men.

  John took a deep breath before walking forward inside the door. He might as well get used to it. Maybe if he shows good behaviour he will get out of here sooner. He is led down a long corridor before reaching another big door. This time it led to the recreational room where he saw a lot of men in the same outfits talking on circular tables or doing various activities around the room.

   The room was grey the only colour in the room was the orange of the prisoners and the blue of the guards. John noticed there were no windows either just 4 grey walls.

 When the door closed with a thud everyone stopped talking and looked to John. He blinked and shrunk in on himself trying to use as little space as it was possible for him. One of the guards behind John coughed and all the men went back to what they were doing before.

  John was led up some stairs to wear he presumed the cells were. He saw more of the big heavy doors. On these doors there was a small window that let the inhabitants see what was going on outside. John was led to the second to last door on the right. They opened the door.

  Inside was a bunk bed a small desk with a mirror a metal toilet and a sink. On the top bunk there was a young man lying down.

  “Strider this is your new cell mate let’s not have to relocate this one as well.” The man didn’t even give an indication that he had heard he just continued to lie on the bed resting his head on his arms one of his legs cocked up. “This will be your new room John. If Dave here is giving you any trouble, don’t be afraid to tell us. We’ll be around or our colleagues will. Strider isn’t one known for liking company but he should be fine for now.” And with that they closed the door. They didn’t lock it though just in case either of the two men wanted to go socialise with the other prisoners.

  John stood there at the threshold of the room wondering what to do next. He looked around the room more to see there was more to it than he originally thought. Yes it was still the boring grey room with no view into the outside world but he could see things on those walls that gave him a little bit of insight to his new cellmate.

  There were indents in the wall which looked the right shape for a fist, others the size of a head. John didn’t think he wanted to know what these were from he just assumed they were from his previous cellmate/s. He also saw lots of drawings on the wall. Though he didn’t know what he drew them with but he found some of them to be quite funny. John let out a little giggle at one of the doodles.

  The man in the bed shot right up.

  “You laughing at my art work he said”

  John could now see what he looked like. He wore his uniform around his waist. Obviously not thinking he would have company. He had a defined chest which happened to be quite pale. That didn’t surprise John though, if he had been in here for a while it’s not like he would have got any sun. He looked up to his face, which was also pale. He had a sprinkling of freckles on his nose and cheeks and bright red eyes. John was startles by their intensity. He also had bright white/blonde hair. John could have sworn you could only get this colour if you bleached your hair…apparently not. He also had a hint of an accent he could not place.

  The man untied his uniform and pulled it to cover his bare chest. It was only then John realised he had just been staring at this potentially dangerous man and had not answered him.

  “um um no I was just appreciating it…some of it is really quite funny” John managed to splurt out  before backing away and hitting the door.

  “You bet it is. It’s what I was doing before I got locked in this shit hole.”

  John nodded not knowing how to respond to that.

  “So what you in for?” The man continued.

“Um” John didn’t know what to say here. Would it be best to tell the truth or play it up or down? This could determine if he survives the night here or not. “Murder” He said simply. Not going into detail about the fact that he didn’t do it. Maybe it would make him seem tougher than he actually is.

  “Should have covered yourself better. I know that better than anyone.” He said.

  “So you’re in for murder too?” John tried to sound confident in what he was saying willing his voice not to falter.

  “The one they know about yeah. But let’s not go into details about that.” He said smirking. John could still not place the accent.

  “So…erm…sorry for like taking away your privacy or whatever man…” John said trying to gain some positive points with this guy if he really is a murderer.

  “You’re okay for the minute just know that if you piss me off I will hurt you. You keep to your business and I keep to mine. That sound fair?”

  “Yes um…that sounds fine…I guess I will be taking the bottom bunk?” John said gesturing towards the bed.

  “Shit, well done genius!” The man said he walked towards the mirror to sort his hair out. Was there any point in keeping up appearances in a jail? It’s not like there is anyone to impress…”Name’s Dave. What will I be calling you?” He said still looking at his own reflection instead of John.

  “John Egbert. My name is John Egbert” John said trying to capture the man…Dave’s attention.

  “Well Egbert welcome to cell 306. I hope you enjoy your stay cause you’re gonna be with us for a while.” Dave turned towards John and gave him a smirk before jumping back on the top bunk.

  His cellmate seemed harmless…for now.

This has not been edited yet so if it's shit or the grammar is terrible I apologise. But this is a very short chapter of a fanfiction I hope to complete. Not entirely sure where it's going yet but I have some ideas of which characters I want to use for certain things.
