Summary: "What are you talking about?" His father sounded puzzled. He had that tone in his voice that Damian always hated to hear. That careless, American tone. His father had never needed to earn his place in a family, so the idea that someone could take it away from him if he wasnāt worthy of it hadn't even occurred to him. Not yet. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Or: Damian and Bruce sit at Dick's bedside after Nightwing is injured on patrol. Damian has a few things to say to his father about it.
My thoughts: Damian is sweet?? Itās a nice gesture?? Dickās unconscious this entire fic but Iām tagging him bc itās kind of about him.
Okay I read this fic where Clark breaks Kon's shoulder at his parents' farm for playing too rough with Jon, and it was the first time Clark realized Kon wasn't invulnerable. I don't suppose 'oops Clark was really shitty to Kon but finds out later and Kon has some PTSD about it' is a flavor of Kon fics I can read more of? It seems like you might know lol
nope i have nothing of the sort because clark being shitty to kon is a characterization i vehemently disagree with 𤷠especially in this context like clark not knowing how kon's powers work?? that's directly contradictory to adventures of superman #506 and superboy (1994) annual #2 and those are both cornerstones of how i see kon and clark's relationship. i really don't like superman slander. imo there's plenty of things about their relationship to dig into for angst and hurt/comfort that don't involve bastardizing superman or directly contradicting their shared canon.

Summary:
'If Bruce had found Jason immediately after he was resurrected, how would Tim Drake have joined the batfamily?' AU. This involves Jason being a little more observant while running around rooftops, Tim unable to resist getting gymnastics training from the original Robin, macaroons, a minor kidnapping, and some light attempted murder.

Submitter's comment:
Okay, the little Tim being gentled into the family like a feral cat is the draw. But this fandom has a lot of that! What it has much less of is WELL WRITTEN DICK GRAYSON. What it has less of is amazing world building about Jason getting to grow up in Gotham, and how that affects his family. What it has less of is Bruce being forced to fix the mess he made of everything after Jason's death, without gaining any people skills or supernatural understanding of what others need. Very well done 'Tim joins the Batfamily Early' type story (despite him actually being joining slightly late, AND being slightly deaged). Even BETTER 'Jason trying to piece together how his family collapsed afer he died and how to fix it' story!
Ok I have GOT to ask this: what do non-americans think that old saying "when life hands you lemons make lemonade" means, if it's not 'add sugar, and make something delicious out of them sour-ass lemons' ? Do they all think that people meant 'invent the concept of carbonated beverages'?
Listen I know a lot gets cut out of modern sayings that changes the meaning but I never expected one to be a recipe. I hear "when life give you lemons, make lemonade" I just picture a bunch of feet stomping on lemons in a bucket like making wine from grapes. And I feel like I'm not far off.

well, I wouldn't say he was a homophobe but he has DEFINITELY expressed any gay support quietly enough that when he's said and done some things in the past that are questionable he made homophobes in the fandom very happy+comfortable insisting he is on their side. I will say I dressed up for pride+was in the center-front row of a con+his lgbt support has been nonexistent enough that I was sweating a little that he might say or do something mean- I didn't know how he felt, because he never said.
Granted, I don't follow every con/watch every interview, so I could be missing something, but it seems like every time he's been "homophobic", it's been in direct response to someone hounding him about Destiel. He's said what he's said on the subject, his answers haven't changed, and yet people keep coming back with the same questions as though theirs is the time he's going to break and go, "Yes! Yes! You get it!" It's been enough that I think he gets wary any time the preface of the question even might lean in that direction. I don't think he's homophobic so much as he's tired of being harassed about a fandom interpretation of his character with which he doesn't agree.
That said, I'm sorry you felt uncomfortable in that situation =(.
jackhawksmoor replied to your post āIf youāre not a trans woman, and youāre headcanoning a character meant...ā
I genuinely have no idea what the hell I just read
General Point 1 : Female characters should overwhelmingly be your choice for trans woman headcanons. If they are not, youāre probably harboring significant cissexism/transmisogyny and need to check that out, since trans women are women, and thereās no reason to see us in male characters more than you would in female characters. Trans women are women, so thereās literally no reason for male characters to overwhelmingly be chosen for trans woman HCs (yet sadly, thatās how it still shakes out, currently)
General Point 2a : If youāre going to headcanon a male character as a trans woman, and youāre not a trans woman yourself, check around to see if a bunch of trans women have HCed that character as a trans woman. If so, great, go ahead. If not, maybe reel back and ask why youāre making that decision, and why itās so important. 99% chance youāre doing it for the wrong reasons.
General Point 2b : Using trans headcanons to avoid dealing with shitty cissexist, comp het baggage is unfair to us. That includes trans men and trans mascs with shitty transmisogynistic trans woman HCs. That includes trans women and transfems with shitty transphobic trans man HCs. We donāt deserve to have our representation and fandom spaces inundated with mpreg, g!p, f*ta, etc., we donāt deserve to be a vehicle for peopleās pregnancy/breeding kinks and their inability to imagine family-building outside of a cissexist and heteronormative framework. We donāt deserve to have our sexual lives equated with cis members of our assigned sex, as if thereās remotely an equal match there. etc. etc. etc., Iām not going to write an essay about it when Iāve already written thousands of words linked to on my education page
People in fandom are bound to creative responsibility, whether they like that fact or not. My original post was criticizing a fandom trend Iād long noticed after a particularly egregious example of it came across my dash iirc.
jackhawksmoor replied to your post: The Monster And The Man. Or: Why is Danās...
I think saying we sympathize with the steps Dan took is taking it a bit far- āhave been forced to tolerateā, maybe? 'Quietly resentā? Very little is less sympathetic than a dirty cop who gets away with no consequences because itās not fiction- itās what happens every day and everyone knows it. So any moment of 'poor Dan have sympathy for himā is a pretty bitter pill to swallow given the message it sends.
Oh, I agree!
For viewers who are more character driven, the fact that theyāve seen Danās perspective and have literally followed him down the path heās taken tends to trump his actions because theyāre sympathizing with Danās pain.Ā
For example, my husband actively wants Dan to die at this point. The moment heās revealed as a dirty cop in Season 1 is where Dan loses any and all sympathy from him. He calls thisĀ āWalter White Syndrome,ā when because weāre presented with actions from a certain point of view, we the audience automatically tend to equate POV withĀ āhero.āĀ
I addressed this in a comment someone else made, but Iāll re-iterate it here. Dan burned through a LOT of my sympathy this season. I admire the writers being willing to actually drag the character down into the gutter in Season 4 and explore the really ugly side of grief manifesting as anger and scapegoating. But there are consequences and for me what really rubbed me the wrong way about Danās arc this season was Ella.
Ella has proof that Danās a dirty cop. Dan not only put Trixie in danger, he put Lucifer and Eve in danger. The fact that he never meant to put Luciferās life in danger is irrelevant - from Ellaās POV, the fact is that Dan almost got another one of her best friends killed. But she prioritizes mercy over justice, even after Dan actively tried to deceive her and manipulate her.
Itās Palmetto all over again. Dan is repeating the same mistakes he made in Season 1, trying desperately to stay one step ahead and not get caught rather than taking responsibility for what he did. And presumably Ella should have heard the gossip about why Dan had just been demoted when she came on in Season 2.Ā
Except that, at the end of Season 1, Dan turned himself in, bringing his arc to a close. Season 4, Danās storyline isnāt his actions, itās his emotional journey and thatās whatās brought to a conclusion at the end of the season - with him getting therapy and making amends with Lucifer, Dirty Dancing style.Ā
But coping with pain is not the same thing as taking responsibility for your choices and thatās why I said that Dan needs to to have the consequences of his actions come back to him and really lose something important to him. Palmetto cost him his seniority on the force and was the final nail in the coffin of his marriage with Chloe.Ā
My husband is of the opinion that what Dan needs to lose next season is his life. Death in the service of who he actually wants to be is the only way for his character to atone.Ā
I would prefer Dan to live because I want him to actually have to deal with the consequences of his actions in the hopes that he finally manages to wrestle with his own tendency to choose the easy solution over the moral choice and find his redemption in life rather than death.
Either way, Dan needs to actually face his own monster and confront it head on.Ā
