You ever stumble into an extremely weird book because you liked the cover
Was just subjected to an alien sex scene in this book that was both clinical and disturbing. Not that I'm a connoisseur but I don't think it was Good.
I feel like the Mizlaplan's sexism doesn't really make sense. It's like Chalker just figured "theocracy = sexist" without bothering to think through how that works in the case of a civilization of hundreds of intelligent species, some of which don't even have sexes. And even the ones that do often don't have the same sort of physical difference between the sexes that humans do!
Man I'm still chasing the high of Jack Chalker's Four Lords of the Diamond series. Best scifi I ever read. Almost 800 pages and I could have enjoyed 50% more. Each of the four planets was so rich and interesting. I need to try the Well of Souls series by him, but I thought Dancing Gods book 1 was only Good and Red Tape War (only partial writer) was a mess.
I found 4 Lords used years ago (without the sick cover!) and couldn't get into it, randomly thought to order it to try again and man am I glad I did.
Please suggest to me your favorite weird scifi.

Quest for the Well of Souls(Saga of the Well World #3)by Jack L. Chalker
Welcome to the Well World: a construct of an ancient defunct race known as the Markovians. The Well World acts both as the controller of and the gateway to 1560 worlds created by the Markovians at the end of their time. Exiles at the Well of Souls left Mavra Chang captured by the Olborn and partially converted into a beast of burden. Twenty-two years later, Chang has tried to escape numerous times, failing each time...each attempt leading to greater despair. Moreover, one of two tiny hopes has already been destroyed. Two ships had crashed into the Well World: hers in the south and another in the inhospitable Northern Hemisphere. The attempt to recover her ship has ended in the destruction of that ship. But a possible method of traveling to the North may offer a final hope and it ignites a new race between Mavra and her enemies...with the winner poised to gain control of Obie...the super-computer that can manipulate the very fabric of existence. Quest for the Well of Souls is the third book set in the Well World universe. (less)
