Oh but yes. For starters, she always stuffs him and Axel full to bursting when they happen to be visiting over a mealtime, which is no mean feat. They’re scrawny, gangly bastards, but they’re completely hollow. There was also that time he came up short at the register for groceries and she contrived to cover the difference (maybe he had the cashier remove some items, which got put to the side to be re-shelved later, but she swooped in when their backs were turned and added them to her cart), citing “everyone has those days.” Somehow he gets her back with a coy re-tooling of her own words. She doesn’t have a car though so it can’t be rescuing her from a nasty ticket, whoops. Just… put a pin in that. >n>Mostly though she just casually supports him a lot in terms of... respect? Like yeah she mothers him a bit but she mothers literally everyone a bit, actual children and grumpy old men alike. But there is a distinct difference between the way she speaks to Reno and the way she speaks to Axel. Axel is a teenager, a kid, a friend of her sons. Reno is an Adult, a peer, a fellow parent. She may berate him now and then for poor decision-making skills, but not in a condescending way. And she verbally bowls over people who try to talk down to him in “will the legal guardians please stand up” situations. Also she somehow became tea-time bros with Auron, and has probably at least once convinced him to give “that shithead rookie” another chance.Also this is only tangentially related but he definitely does that “hot younger man butters up middle-aged woman with mostly-sincere-but-not-at-all-actually-serious flirting” thing and she’s like, “You sir are an incorrigible shit and I know exactly what you’re doing. Continue.”(Oh now I’m thinking about all three of them having tea. Auron, Reno, and Cloud Strife’s mother having tea together. How absurd! I love this AU :’D)((OH now I’m imagining her somehow ending up with Auron, Reno, and Goofy and offering them doughnuts. “Ma’am, that is a stereotype.” “WELL, if you don’t WANT them...” She starts to close the box and they all jerk forward like Barbossa’s crew when Elizabeth fake-drops the Aztec coin.))(((Remember when this AU was about Sora being in high school…?)))
