For Jim Izzy week have a little idea that I got in the hellish bird place:
As the revenge sails on and the graveyard inn grows smaller and smaller in the distance, Jim feels over the soft black leather of the glove that now covers their right hand and makes a decision:
They will not let Ed keep Izzy, he took away enough from him and Jim won’t let him make Izzy’s death just a tragic meaningless side note to his and Stedes happy ever after.
Izzy deserved better, at least he deserved his own ending!
To be buried at sea like the remarkable pirate he was, taking one last voyage guiding his soul into the afterlife, peacefully sinking into the still dark water when his coffin would ultimately give way, laying to rest in the ocean that had carried him for all his life. And would surely continue to carry the stories of that life told on countless decks of other ships for centuries to come.
Jim imagined Izzys still body, clothes and hair ethereally floating around him as he would become one with the sea, the very sea the revenge was sailing on, the ocean connecting them across life and death. Their unicorn at least in some way staying with his crew, his found family forever, until they all would join him someday down there.
It dosnt take a lot of convincing to get Archie and Oluwande on board and even Zheng, despite not knowing Izzy, agrees that being buried on land is not an acceptable ending for Izzy Hands, to her knowledge greatest swordsman of the Caribbean and according to her partners less of a mediocre man then both his captains combined.
So at night they let a dinghy to water and row back to the cabin to dig up the grave.
Zheng mutters something about "not respecting your elders" when she spots Izzys ring and "his fucking leg?!" out in the open. Yes she did say that last part out loud in a very offended tone, her partners who have never heard her swear before are equally as shocked about this. In response to such foul language Archie let’s out a "nice" and pats her on the shoulder. Meanwhile Olu tries to explain that he really gave his best to convince Stede this was a very distasteful idea. But he had eventually given up because Fang started crying again about loosing both his henchmen-husband and his tiny boss in the same month and needed to be comforted.
It is a pretty shallow grave since Ed had hurried them the whole time to "get on with it!". Hadn’t even picked up the shovel ones himself that prick, Jim remembered as they kept shovelling away.
A few minutes later a yell sounds though the warm night air “¡Madre de Dios! Which of you estúpidos forgot to check for a pulse!!!”
Long story short: Finders, keepers! Izzy is smoothly adopted into the polycule. He is very annoyed and very loved by his partners.😌 (The annoyed part of course does not apply to Zheng, Izzys first mate instincts have immediately imprinted on her as his new captain, she could never do anything wrong.)
