Bruno sighs deeply, leaning back in his office chair and staring at the computer screen for far too long. His eyes sting and water just enough to bother him, causing him to rub them tiredly, and so he reaches for his glass of whatever concoction he could rummage from the team's kitchen. It's been over a week now, and the trail has gone cold, empty, and dark. Now the panic, shame, and regret is seeping in, his hand trembling when he brings the cool alcohol to his lips. The burning embarrassment can't be masked by his beverage, and he finally whispers, "Where could you have gone, Khrystyna?"
The last thing he can remember is a small spat between them, Bruno telling the talented woman that she will never save everyone and she needs to get it in her head that she will fail. The killing blow was the growl of:
"If you can't face the pain and run through this, then you are no pararescueman!"
Even the memories of it causes the usually stoic and loving man to bury his head in his hand.
"What have I done?" Though from sadness, Bruno's anger is rooted, so he slams his fist so hard into the keyboard that it breaks, the keycaps flying all over and the picture of Khrys getting magnified to just her eyes on the computer screen from the keys getting smashed. He looks into her eyes, as though she's right in front of him, judging him, burning through his soul. "Please forgive me, kiddo." The beg was part prayer and a cry of help, his eyes brimming with tears from pushing away someone he cares about.
