Defective irkens do not have them
Another random point about the linguistics au that (because I love this au being a language nerd) with the amount of bugs dib has in zims base, dibs probably been learning Irken too, which is pretty neat
Oh definitely! I like to imagine that the irken language contains a lot of sounds that don't necessarily appear in many languages on earth, making it extremely difficult for non-irkens to replicate (although we do have some pretty cool languages that incorporate clicking sounds, and even English has some forms of non-verbal communication ie. clicking your tongue can signify general disapproval, etc.). I touched on this in part one where Gir describes irken as "those weird chirpy bird noises", but obviously it's a lot more complicated than that.
Also, Irkens can communicate simple concepts (fear, aggression, interest/disinterest, anxiety, joy) through their antennae if you know what to look for, so a lot of the language's subtext is completely visual. That being said, while I think Dib would have a hell of a time holding a conversation in Irken without accidently insulting someone's mother, it's very possible that he eventually picks up enough to be able to understand it to some extent, especially when he starts listening in on Gir's language lessons.
You know without their host bodies irkens are literally just metal computer spiders and that thought has kept me up all night.
I’ve been in this fandom for seven years and not once have I seen anyone discuss numbers in Irken (if someone has please lmk)
From what I can see we’ve all just been suffering and writing them out using the agreed upon alphabet, so I made some numbers because I need them for a comic I’m doing,, I tried my best to make them look ‘authentic’
