3. What were your top five books of the year? 12. Any books that disappointed you?
3. Top five, huh? Oh dear, okay:
Victor Hugo - Les Miserables. Why the hell haven’t I read this sooner?! It’s perfect - although sad af - and I want to read it again!
Laura Purcell - Silent Companions/The Corset (both were awesome, I won’t choose and I will definitely buy any further books she writes! ♥)
Erin Morgenstern - Starless Sea (so pretty! Aesthetics packed in a book)
Mo Xiang Tong Xia - The Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation. The writing style is weird and sometimes confusing, but the story’s great. I cried, I laughed, I was embarrassed and mad and hopeful and everything in between.
And honourable mention: Alice Oseman - Loveless. The story is so-so, but it has aroace protagonist, who I heavily relate to and it’s the first time I managed to find something like this, so I somehow felt validated and seen and I honestly cried reading it.
12. Books that disappointed me
Not really? I mean, in order to disappoint me, I would have to have high expectations. There were some books that I didn’t much care about (A.J. Grayson’s The Boy in the Park, Ruth Ware’s The Turn of the Key or Mika Waltari’s The Parisian Tie), but I hadn’t had much of expectation for them to start with, I just wanted to try something different than I usually read.
I think it was rather the opposite - there were some books that surprised me and overall it was a good year concerning books.
