-In the 1970s, a popular slang term for sex was “to ball,” similar to the modern term “to bang.” So when we in the modern day would say something like “Billy wants to bang Becky,” in the 70s, they would say “Billy wants to ball Becky.”

-Remember that scene from Psycho where Lila is searching through Norman’s room and finds a book with no title, no author, and no cover? Well, the reason why we only see her shocked reaction to what is in that book is because it was very likely hard-core pornography. During this time period, the production, distribution, and possession of porn of any kind was illegal, so the industry had to be as discreet as possible in order to create and sell their work safely. One of the ways they did this was by printing illicit images in book form, but these books had to title, author, or cover to avoid any attention or suspicion. Likewise, porn films (otherwise known as stag films) were produced in secret and shown in underground theatres, bars, and brothels.

-Speaking of books, smut was a popular way to satisfy any kink that you had—and I do mean any kink. One such company of erotic literature was BeeLine Books; an American publisher of some of the sleaziest pulp-style erotic novels sold in mass-market paperbacks, and let me tell you, these books made smutty books on BookTok look like children’s books by comparison.
